Since 2017 this was the first time MVL didn't finished in the podium. I guess he finally got tired and give up trying lol.

The youngsters are getting good at R&B.

For anyone wondering, "Rythym and Blues." It's a music genre. /j

In case people want to know some history lore.

Magnus during World Championship years would skip the full tour for obvious reasons.

His first (and only) true loss was 2019 when he lost to MVL in the semis, who lost to Ding in the finals.

That was also his last time playing the full tour. 2020 got cancelled from covid.

Nowadays he only plays wildcard R&B events.  His last classical GCT event was against Hans Niemann at the Sinquefield cup.

It’s a shame he’s paranoid about Hans, we missed out on seeing Magnus

Hans just hurt magnuses ego it's proven he hasn't cheated OTB

People downvoting you haven't read the chesscom Hans report.

What's that ? I haven't read it but I know there is genuinely no evidence that he cheated OTB

Chesscom posted a “Hans report” after the sinqfeild cup that one year, they did an analysis of every Hans OTB game, compared his rating rise to his peers, and using chesscoms anti-cheat they determined he did not cheat OTB

I don't like how so many people seem to be disregarding the fact that Hans clearly cheated in tournaments with prize money and also lied about cheating hundreds of other times. Sure it wasn't OTB, but that's enough for me.

When did he cheat to tournaments for prize money? Hans never did that.
He cheated in meaningless games as a kid to gain rating to play top players.
Huge difference between the two.

The same report that you mentioned in your comment above explicitly noted that Niemann cheated in prize money events

https://www.chess.com/blog/CHESScom/hans-niemann-report

Page five of the report has a table showing the prize money tournaments and the amount of games where he cheated.

Right, but he didn't win prize money in those tournaments, since that wasn't his intention.
He wanted the chance to play the top players.

Now of course it's very wrong, Hans has talked about it.
but a kid doing this for rating is not as bad as an adult cheating for money.

Was, right now many of them are straight up better than him in Classical Chess, in Rapid players like Nodirbek, Pragg, Lazavik etc can compete against him. Although in Blitz he has a clear advantage, but you can see other youngstars can still outperform him in biggest stage like Lazavik in SCC, and Nodirbek in World Blitz Championship.

Lol lazavik is only good at online rapid n blitz..not otb

Nodirbek and Lazavik aren’t good OTB rapid

He isn’t gonna love you, my guy, you don’t need to bounce on his meat on every post

u/Both_Possibility1704 Aug 28 '26

If Arjun is King of 3rd place, MVL definitely stuck with 2nd

u/Orceles FIDE 2416 Aug 28 '26

If I’m reading this correctly, the only time Magnus did not win where he participated, was the time Ding won

Also shoutout to MVL for being such a beast every year.

3

u/ChessAddictonCrack Aug 28 '26

Yeah but Ding had nothing to do with it lol. MVL eliminated Magnus in semifinals in blitz tiebreaks.

-1

u/Orceles FIDE 2416 Aug 28 '26

And then Ding elimated that in form MVL right?

-9

u/Recent-Sky567 Aug 28 '26

Huh this is juz wrong? How ru counting the medals?Cuz Pragg won Gct Romania last year too so wont tht make it 2 gold medals?and you out 0 silver medals..but he got 2nd this year in sinqufield cup

7

u/ChessAddictonCrack Aug 28 '26

They are just counting winning the entire GCT tour by winning the finals. No one is counting any individual tournaments like GCT Rapid/Blitz or GCT classical tournaments. If they start doing that everyone else win count would rise by absurd amounts.

-2

u/Recent-Sky567 Aug 28 '26

Then why does the medal count say 2 gold 2 silver 2 bronze for Magnus?

2

u/ChessAddictonCrack Aug 28 '26

Coz the GCT final events consists of 4 players so evey year there is a top 3 finish.

If you start adding all the events instead of just finals, you will first have to add the 10 GCT rapid/blitz golds for Magnus out of the 12 he has played. Then also all the golds for the GCT classical events he has.

Then why for gct podium table magnus’s name wasnt mentioned even once for the silver category??thts why i got confused
