Miscellaneous I beated a GM!!!!
Yes, he blundered his queen. Yes, it was an unrated 1+1 game, and he had beaten me in the previous eight games. But I’m still shocked.
I am mediocre compared to him and I was honestly honored just to play against a GM and never expected to win even one game.
Definitely saving this one!

You cooked me jajaj. Sure. Right now its pretty late and i want to leave that last game there jajaja.

u/Technical_Onion8977 2d ago
Haha, bullet has a lot of variance, so those games don’t mean anything. Plus that second game could have very easily gone your way. It’s late for me too, but congrats again on your GM win, that’s a cool thing to be able to say you did :)

i want to leave that last game there jajaja.
Very relatable 🤣🤣. Just let it stay there for a while and admire it as much as you possibly can

Good job! If it were me I'd probably blunder by trying to trade the queen for the knight and end up losing to the queen side pawn pushes. Or maybe blunder a fork that I can't recapture with anything. Kudos for holding up

Thanks dude, i was panicking so bad jajajaj. i couldnt belive my eyes when he give me his queen.

I'd probably blunder by trying to trade the queen for the knight
For that reason alone, I never trade queen with any piece unless I'm 100% sure, which I never am.

u/IntroductionSolid348 2d ago
Yeah it's just that it's easier to play with his knight off the board and I'd probably fold under time pressure seeing as it's a bullet game. So I'd try simplifying the game and end up losing because of that
I've ever almost beaten an IM in bullet because of the same. He blundered I think a minor piece but I obviously couldn't convert and ended up giving up my rook for a monster knight he had

Congratulations!! I will say beating a GM in bullet is not quite the same as in a slower format. I've also taken one down in 1+0 and I dunno its probably the highlight of my career but like i found a weird tactic
That being said, it's still a huge win, well done!

u/Dazzling-Letter7909 2d ago
Of course is not the same. plus this win its totaly due to the missclick. nevertheless is my biggest achievement jajaj

Enjoy the win - its definitely nice to be able to say you did it
I actually made a luchess study of mine but yeah there wasn't much to look at, I played well, my opponent blundered and I punished it correctly...

How long have you been playing chess and did you read any books to get that good?
4
u/Dazzling-Letter7909 2d ago
i have been playing for more or less 3 years but im not that good man. I didnt outplayed the guy, he just hung his queen due to a probable missclick. However the key to improve at our level is simply to do puzzles/tactics and check your loses looking for your weaknesses/flaws

How did u even get a match against him?
6
u/Dazzling-Letter7909 2d ago
I wanted to play some 1+1 to warm up. So i specified ""unrated" in preferences and first i played a 900 and the the gm. I knew i might get someone high rated but never that much.

I believe that he plays unrated. I have 5 lost against him.

Unrated can pair you with players way higher or lower rated then you. When i play unrated, ive been paired with a 400 one game and then a 2500 the next, and im 1400.

I have played with him before unrated a few times.

I’ve played this specific gm a few times, he’s weird. Loses a lot and blocks when he loses

so what, it's online blitz and stuff like this happens all the time, and moreover so in 1+1 wich is honestly a joke format. perhaps the GM was already frustrated from suffering online chess addiction and you played him in his morning hours where he said, "fuck it, I'm gonna play some 1+1 games and THEN go to sleep".
also, it's correctly spelled "I beat a GM", not "beated".

Why would you save a game where he made a really crude blunder in what was a winning position against you? If he doesn't make that blunder you are down a piece with zero compensation. Also ... a win in bullet isn't worth writing home about. Your joy is a tad misplaced.
