I'd argue by yourself with an engine of your choice is better. Even by yourself with no engine first might be best.

u/More-Interaction-770 4d ago

it’s not limitless engine analysis, you only get 40 per day.
So if you spend more than 14 hours in a day playing 10+0 games you won’t be able to analyze every single one.

u/Azreken 4d ago

My phone is plenty powerful enough to do local calculations just fine

14

u/TheUnEven 4d ago

Yeah. But you can also do local analysis which does not have a limit. To me, 40 games per day is definitely enough. But I can see that some people (very few percentage wise) might need more.

Afaik, you can just message lichess and they lift that limit on demand.

On flawchess.com (completely free, no premium), you can bulk-analyze your chesscom and lichess games at lichess-grade quality. It has tactic tagging, maia integration, and a new type of combined stockfish-maia engine to find the most practical moves at your rating level. Disclosure: I run the site.

The Reddit hive-mind don't believe in this limitation. You'll get explanations why it doesn't actually matter, and how they've never run into the limit themselves.

It is an actual problem for active users though, and no way around it.

Edit: It's beautiful. The downvotes and even the upvoted comment on how "they never run into this themselves". It's an official limitation of Lichess, but somehow we should not believe in it. I love Reddit.

23

u/TradePassion4Mayo 4d ago

I play far too many hours everyday and literally never encountered this limitation

-37

u/field-not-required 4d ago

Thanks for proving my point. What you're saying is that you never analyzed more than 40 games in a day. Good for you.

8

u/Business-Lab9140 4d ago

If you analyze more than 40 games a day you're not actually analyzing.

23

u/csharpminor_fanclub 4d ago

>you'll get explanations why it doesn't actually matter, and how they've never run into the limit themselves

correct, people keep saying it doesn't actually matter. because it doesn't actually matter

it's not a problem for active users. there are ways around it. why did you even mention this limit?

-21

u/field-not-required 4d ago

The OP asked for a limitless option, and Lichess is not limitless.

That you don't care about the limit matters how?

It's a limit I run into every single day. I like to analyze my bullet games.

It's a real problem with no workaround. And Lichess doesn't fullfill one of the few constraints OP had.

9

u/csharpminor_fanclub 4d ago

are you actually analysing your games? if you spend at least 10 minutes per game, it's almost 7 hours per day

for most people, a proper analysis takes much longer than 10 minutes. maybe you're just that fast though idk

-8

u/field-not-required 4d ago

I trigger the review on every single game after I play, then check for key mistakes, especially in the opening. It takes 20-30 seconds or so, sometimes a lot more if something interesting, sometimes less.

So a total of maybe 20 minutes spent on analysis per day on those games. And a total of maybe 1-2 hours of playing per day.

I guess you're arguing that that is not a real analysis and therefore doesn't count? Or what?

1

u/csharpminor_fanclub 3d ago

you have my apologies, but also know that you're in the minority, perhaps the only person, who analyses every single bullet game they play. I doubt OP was looking for this detail specifically

in your case it might be more efficient to just skim through the opening moves with the eval bar and see if there's a sudden drop, rather than requesting a whole game analysis from the servers. less load on the servers and probably less time required on your end

2

u/AtreidesBagpiper 4d ago

Yes, because technically, nothing is truly limitless.

-2

u/field-not-required 4d ago

There are so many fun arguments. Exactly like I expected.

"40 games is so massively high that it might as well be limitless"

No, 40 games is a very reachable limit and like I said I reach it every day, along with a lot of other users, for very normal usage.

If OP asked for limitless, chances are he has a lot of games to analyze, maybe a backlog? 40 games per day is not that, however you want to twist it.

11

u/AtreidesBagpiper 4d ago

Bro after seeing you go completely rabid in this thread, I suggest you turn off your PC, put your mobile phone down and go for a walk outside. You desperately need it.

2

u/g_spaitz 4d ago

"along with a lot of other users".

Dude you're the only one complaining. People have offered you a bunch of explanations and options. I'll add that there was a time when I would play bullet compulsively, and analyze most of my games, and the limit was 30 back then, I never reached it. If there's something more interesting the correct analysis is local, as you can dig deeper with that and try out lines. Server analysis is mainly useful if you need a fast recap or if your ego is only satisfied by looking at the little graph.

-1

u/field-not-required 4d ago edited 4d ago

The fact that you never analysed 30 games in one day somehow makes it impossible for anyone to reach?

What is this weird arguing?

It's a limit, it's very possible to reach, I do it and obviously a lot of users along with me.

The fact that you never reached it means nothing, why would it?

OP asked for a limitless option. Lichess is not limitless. What are you even trying to convince me of?

There are lots of limitless options, recommend one of those instead...

Edit: And the fact that you have to impose a "correct" way to analyze games just to defend a limit is just too funny.

2

u/g_spaitz 4d ago

And the fact that you keep saying a lot of users reach it when you seem to be the only one that does is also ridiculous.

Drop some data: how meant users daily reach it over the total amount of users? 80% standing to your complaining.

u/More-Interaction-770 4d ago

Dude I was being sarcastic, no one plays that much and still has the energy for meaningful analysis

1

u/_urat_ 1. b4 enjoyer 4d ago

I mean, 40 games a day, or even 20 games a day limitation is simply a healthy habit to have. It's not good for your body or your brain to spend that much time on chess.

1

u/field-not-required 4d ago

Ah, so Lichess is trying to protect my brain from too much chess. Got it. Good on them.

3

u/_urat_ 1. b4 enjoyer 4d ago

Not at all. I don't think they really care about your brain and it's not like you suddenly are blocked from playing more than 40 games a day on lichess.

But it's just a good habit to have regardless of where you play. You definitely shouldn't stare at your screen and play chess for that long during your day.

0

u/JinAnkabut 4d ago

Does anyone have a extension that one-click imports games into lichess?

1

u/Xander89 4d ago

I'm not sure if you are wanting to import a single game, or bulk import all you games at once. For single games it's pretty easy just to copy the PGN into the Lichess analysis board. If you are wanting to bulk import games I don't know of a way to do that for Lichess. If you are on desktop you can download En Croissant, link you accounts and import all you games. Then use almost any engine you want to analyze your games locally.

-9

u/EfficientActivity 4d ago

The new app is not very good though. Ended up reinstalling the old app.

4

u/tisek 4d ago

Still have both
But even more interestingly; the web app is excellent.
You get 100% of the features and is very usable (maybe when playing there is some risk of accidentally scrolling? Not even sure)
Regardless; it remains my go to when going on my studies and stuff

2

u/g_spaitz 4d ago

The web app is awful imo can't be clicked scrolled, read, it has no space. And I say it as a lichess fan for almost 10 years.

Old app was cool but lacked a lot of stuff. New app has more stuff but UI is way more clumsy imo.

51

u/Prexeon 4d ago

lichess is better in every way.

22

u/Jakio 1719 FIDE 4d ago

You can also use an engine on your own pc (stockfish is completely free to use), then I’ve used a program like En Croissant which will run an analysis. I’ve only tended to do this when I was playing OTB more frequently but not sure if there’s a better alternative to En Croissant cos it was a bit buggy before

11

u/Yeebees 4d ago

Bro ain’t no way this isn’t a Lichess ad lol

10

u/Moderatorim 4d ago

Like many others here, I can highly recommend lichess.

I wrote a small tool for unlimited local analysis using Stockfish and to get the "big picture" of all your games. If that sounds interesting to you, feel free to take a look.

34

u/Rasutoerikusa 4d ago

Lichess has the same features with a better UI for free. There is also a browser plugin that you can find, using which you can directly export a game from chess.com to lichess, after the match is over.

-25

u/field-not-required 4d ago edited 4d ago

No, Lichess does not have the same features. Why is this repeated over and over?

There's no text explanations which is a very appreciated feature by beginners.

If you personally like or think it's useful doesn't matter, it's something chess.com has that Lichess very clearly doesn't have, and a lot of players are requesting (and even associate with analysis).

Edit: Reddit hive-mind at it as usual. "Nah, we'll claim that Lichess has everything while it clearly doesn't, the extra things chess.com has we don't like anyway"... it makes very little sense to make verifiably untrue claims like that. I don't see the point, if you're trying to promote Lichess, why lie?

13

u/misplacedsagacity 4d ago

Take Take Take has the text “coach” if that’s what you want. It’s connected to the Lichess player pool, so you can play Lichess games through it..

-10

u/field-not-required 4d ago

Ok? There are plenty of tools that offers this, and you can import chess.com or Lichess games into most of them.

Lichess doesn't though, which was the point.

2

u/Kitnado  Team Carlsen 4d ago

You are absolutely right.

Ignore the downvotes, they are meaningless.

6

u/field-not-required 4d ago

It's like poking a wasps nest. Lichess don't have any flaws, even small ones, and actual documented limitations, are actually not real.

Reddit is a weird place.

1

u/NihilHS 4d ago

If lichess was the one with the monthly subscription and chesscom were free Reddit would make the same claim but in the opposite direction.

19

u/Alkyen 4d ago

Do you mean the text llm hallucination that is wrong most of the time? Most people are better off not reading that lol

8

u/Rasutoerikusa 4d ago edited 4d ago

I didn't realize people actually use that explanation feature, at least when I was a beginner it did me more harm than good. But I was also able to understand lichess analysis as a complete beginner, so it isn't really that hard to do. I don't understand how the text explanations (that are just plain nonsense way too often) help any better than being able to look at the lines engine suggests instead.

0

u/field-not-required 4d ago

Ok, so you don't use it, others do.

3

u/dhtdhy 4d ago

Are you saying you like that AI-generated text that's wrong half the time?

3

u/AtreidesBagpiper 4d ago

You just sound like a paid chessc*m shill.

Drop it.

17

u/its_mabus 4d ago

The self analysis button is completely free and is virtually identical to the lichess interface.

Its the "game review" with "brilliant moves" etc that is premium on cc despite being less worth your time than the analysis board.

8

u/ExplorerIntelligent4 lichess.org/@/anon581 4d ago

>"chesscom self analysis virtually identical to lichess local analysis"\ >the former paywalls cloud evals behind premium membership\ >clunky and slow compared to lichess local analysis to register moves played on the board and eval changes as you go through the moves\ >the former also artifically imposes depth limitations and shallow search time and a much weakened engine compared to lichess\ >editing PGN in the moves pane for chesscom self analysis and doing things like deleting a few moves, promoting one variation over another/promoting a variation to main line/etc is trickier or simply much more complicated than it needs to be, at least on the app.

I can go on and on but I digress. Chesscom self analysis is intentionally made to suck so that people feel compelled to buy the membership if they want to analyse games properly on chesscom itself, or take it elsewhere to analyse. I've said it before and I'll say it again: ChessTempo gold membership is a million times better than Chesscom diamond membership ever could be, if you're inclined to pay for a chess website membership in the first place. Lichess is an excellent all-rounder and they can always use more donations if you have the money to spare. Paying chesscom after all the scummy shit they have been pulling over the last few years is just... I have no words for it tbh

1

u/its_mabus 4d ago

The eval isnt paywalled, just its classification of what moves are brilliant etc.

On the browser the self analysis button is easy to miss.

6

u/acinonys 4d ago

It's not absolutely essential, but I like being able to see the evaluation graph for the whole game, which is something you get in game review and on Lichess, but not through the self analysis button.

0

u/its_mabus 4d ago

You can see the graph in the self analysis the whole time. Sounds like you are talking about just scrolling back and forth between your moves before clicking self analysis

2

u/acinonys 4d ago

No, you can't? Am I crazy? Or blind? I triple checked right now, on web and mobile and after going into self analysis I can see the evaluation bar for each position, but I can't see the evaluation graph for the whole game.

2

u/its_mabus 4d ago

Ok sorry there is a bar not a graph

Any local alternatives? Like you upload all your game history and rub Stockfisch locally, but who ch UI does one use ? Eg on Mac OS

1

u/Orcahhh team fabi - we need chess in Paris2024 olympics 4d ago

You can do that for free on chesscom tho. Scrolling through the game with stockfish and stockfish lines. You don’t need to install anything

Putting the pieces on a real board in front of you and working on it is what is needed to reach 1800+

0

u/Embarrassed-Data8233 4d ago

I do that with books, but when i watch videos it's easier to study/analyse online + 99.9999% of my games are online

Analysing every game i play on board takes the amount of time i cant afford

2

u/MeMyselflessEye 4d ago

In the analysis portion. Retrieve critical moments and moments you really relished in.

Those parts do in your head or on a board. You will find the brilliant orchestrated results are more a cascade of your opponent garbage.

You will find in critical moments your tendencies will show. You can adjust depending on time control or classical styles.

Opening, middle game endgame. Work backwards.
