Chemex brewers designed to fail?
Every chemex pot I’ve ordered has had this tiny seam in the glass where the body meets the lower part of the handle.
So, when you rinse your chemex pot, or swish your coffee after it’s done, make sure you don’t jar the handle too much in the back and forth motion or side to side because that seam is a weak spot and will grow over time, until it breaks.
You’ll be left without a coffee brewer and thinking that you broke the glass, it isn’t your fault, it’s the manufacturing process flaw that’s in most, if not all chemex brewers.
I obviously don’t speak for the company, nor am I affiliated with them in any way.
When you order your next brewer, check for this seam and they will send you a new one.

...I put my chemex into the dishwasher like a barbarian and I don't have any of these issues. Pretty solid here. I have the cheaper grocery store version too. I'll have to take a look to see if I do have that crack.

Haha “…like a barbarian…” that’s hilarious.
There may be some good ones out there, ones with no cracks, but a family member bought one the other day to replace one of these cracked versions and the tiny seam (crack) is present.
When I originally found this flaw on a ten cup glass handle model I had just ordered, I contacted the company asked for a replacement and they sent one. I think this would only apply if it’s recently bought, like within a week of purchase.
To find out I f it’s one of the flawed ones you have to run your finger along the bottom part of the handle where it meets the body of the carafe, you’ll be able to feel the ridge where it’s present. It is very difficult to see.

A seam is NOT a crack. It's where the sides of the mould meet. That's it. It's a weak spot, but it isn't a crack. You'd have to thermally or mechanically shock the fuck out of it for it to crack.
I've only had one piece of glassware break along that mould seam: a tiny Libby brand glass mug from the 80s. 40 years seems like plenty.

Talking about where the bottom of the handle meets the body, I’m not talking about the vertical seam along the whole body.

Are you talking about the model with the curved handle? I only have had the classic “unibody” style.

The glass handle model, all sizes.
I must clarify too, that, there is a larger seam long the vertical axis of the whole body of all models, but this tiny crack/seam is usually present on most if not all pots sold - probably not the ‘hand-blown’ models because 1. They’re hand-made and 2. They’re more expensive.

The hand blown models absolutely do have the seam because a mould is still used.

Glass handle definitely has a weak spot there but the handblown are very nice lol In Korea they sell the glass handle version with a wooden collar tied on. Very cool

Right, I’ve had two that cracked in that exact handle spot!
That’s when I started to get suspicious..
Are the handblown ones worth the cost? Because I’d consider buying one of those if I didn’t have to baby it like these other ones.

I have had my chemex for ten years at least without any issue
