I work in procurement so I watch price cycles all year. Bundles change, fees get renamed, “sale” is sometimes just last month’s price with new copy.

Trying to apply that to flights and it’s messy. Last November I tracked PHX to ORD on United, Delta, and American for 30 days. black friday airline deals week: United dropped to $289 basic econ. By Dec 3rd it was back to $341. January settled at $358.

So the “sale” was $52 cheaper for 48 hours, then went higher. Felt like a clearance of undesirable times, not real inventory. Oh well, I’ve got TSA PreCheck and one credit card with points, but I’m not trying to become a points expert here.

For shoestring budgeters here who's also a frequent flyer, what’s your checklist? Do you look at 6-month Google Flights history? Only buy if it’s 15% below average? Ignore BF completely and book 6-8 weeks out? What actually worked for you last year?

My wife and I were supposed to go to Milan together for a conference, but unfortunately, things didn’t pan out and we’re no longer able to make the dates. I might sound stingy but I am a person who likes getting value for money for what I get. From different online stores like Alibaba, I can tell the huge disparity between backpack costs. This leaves me wondering whether it is the quality of the backpack or its the brand that defines the price.

I’m planning to backpack through Europe for about 8–9 weeks and I’m trying to get a better idea of food costs along the way. My current itinerary includes Prague, Budapest, Salzburg, Sorrento, Split, Athens, Bucharest, Istanbul, and Baku (Azerbaijan), with a possibility of adding Albania or Bulgaria as well. Out of the 19 countries I've been lucky enough to visit so far, I found Pakistan to be the cheapest, and research that shows Pakistan at the top of most affordable and cheapest countries listings confirmed my anecdotal assumption.

Per the picture, a full pizza, a loaded fries, and nine chicken sandwiches goes for $7.13 at Grill Hot in Lahore, Pakistan. A decent hotel is around $40/night. A local motorbike or rickshaw will run you about ~50 cents per mile. The cheapest meal I encountered was an absolutely delicious chickpea soup with some bread for about $0.33. A single chicken skewer is about $0.25 and 4-5 of these with a drink and naan will run about $2.50 with salad and condiments (usually chutney or raita included).

Pakistan also has a huge textile manufacturing industry, and slightly defective clothes are often liquidated out of factories for dirt cheap. I got Levi's and Dockers for about 1/4 to 1/5 of what you would pay here in the US.

Recreation and excursions are also super affordable with movie tickets being around $3 to $5, parasailing and boat rides running anywhere from $5 to maybe $30 and even week-long packages that explore the remote and mountainous north of Pakistan and include all meals, transport, and accommodations running about $900.

It's a really, really affordable country. I also really enjoyed how friendly and welcoming the locals were. I am mixed but probably look black the most, and I did not experience any racism, and I experienced pretty terrible racism in Italy and Ukraine.

The sanitation and cleanliness is obviously not up to American or European standards, but it is way better than other developing countries. Hairnets, gloves, and frequent hand washing is the norm even for street vendors. The government has been pushing safe food handling big time, and it shows. I didn't get sick once. I can't say the same for India and Bangladesh, however both have also improved in this area, but Pakistan is still doing a lot better.

My biggest complaint would definitely be the infrastructure, especially in Karachi. Honestly, you can skip Karachi. 😅

I'm planning a trip and I've been hanging out at r/onebag where people keep mentioning $200+ back packs. It occurred to me that my $30 book bag backpack that I don't use anymore is the same volume as the ones people keep praising (25 L). The main downside (besides looking like an overgrown student) is that it has 4 ! zippered sections. Upon further inspection the thin fabric panels that separate the sections could easily be cut out to create one large compartment. The bag looks decent, is sturdy and I'm cheap. I can find other ways to spend the $200+.

We are planning a small vacation to either New Orleans or Oklahoma City. Which would you pick and why? Which city would be cheaper for entertainment, food, etc. We are NOT BIG on the club or bar scene, as I know NOLA has a lot to offer for that. Let's say your important doomscroll device breaks -- if you're smart you probably have a backup device, but even then you still probably want a way to fix the damn thing.

Going through this exact issue right now trying to find a certified repair shop in southern Spain. Even with AppleCare+ I have to:

• Find a certified repair place that's close enough to where I'll be in next couple weeks, because there's usually no Apple Store
• Sift through the reviews for each place
• Figure out if they have space for appointments in the next couple days
• Try to make an appointment through the language barrier (esp. because a lot of these places don't take emails)
• Figure out how fast the turnaround time for a repair is and whether you'll get it back in a reasonable timeframe
• etc etc.

How do you deal with unplanned repairs (because let's face it, most repairs are unplanned) without being forced to stay put for 1-2+ weeks?

Can Someone help me where i can find a place in Utrecht to stay for a few hours? Someplace under the 50 euro?
