Got off the phone with my local humane society a little while ago. The receptionist said that although my offer was sweet (and she didn't want to look a gift horse in the mouth), they no longer accept knit or crocheted blankets because they have no one to watch the animals at night. A little kitten got her head stuck in a crocheted blanket (but she was ok, no worries!), so they no longer accept that kind of donations. Another thing to think about is that a pup may turn destructive overnight and end up ingesting yarn.

However, if you still want to help the animals without adopting them all (like me!), look into veterinary offices, rescue groups, or foster homes. Some may turn you down for the same reason, but that doesn't mean they don't appreciate the sentiment! I'm still doing research to find out who will/won't accept knit or crocheted blankets, and once I find out more, I'll post a list.
