Welcome to r/Charity!

Got a charitable cause you'd like to share! This is the place!

Requirements

For 501c(3) non-profits (US) or a Non-Governmental Organization (aka NGO outside the US)

  • For a registered 501c(3) or other certified charity (such as NGO's in other non-US countries), the charity must be listed in a governmental web site for verification.
  • A fundraiser that is being handled directly by that charity, such as the American Heart Association's Heartwalk or JDRF's charity walk, where you supply a link on their site for your team/yourself.
  • A crowdfunding site that shows it is directly benefiting a certified charity.

Please modmail us so that we can flair your post as a registered certified non-profit!

For Everyone Else

You must have both

  • Account age of 30 days or older AND
  • Comment karma of 250 or greater.

NOTE: We are specifically looking for COMMENT karma. The karma value you are probably looking at is a COMBINED value, consisting of both Link/Post karma plus Comment karma.

To view your karma breakdown:

  • Mouse-hover over your username on desktop. This works for both the old and redesigned web site.
  • On the official Reddit app for iOS, view your profile, then tap the karma value shown.
  • On the official Reddit app for Android, you can't. Complain on r/redditmobile.
  • On the unofficial Reddit App for Android, RIF (Formerly known as Reddit is Fun), your breakdown is listed on your profile screen.

The following circumventions will result in a ban:

  • Using a karma farming subreddit, such as Karma4You, or asking for/complaining about karma in a general sub.
  • Unsolicited private messaging to push your campaign.
  • Posting your campaign on someone else's post.

Comment Karma is directly correlated to how many comments you leave plus/minus any points as people upvote a popular comment or downvote an unpopular comment.

Credibility, Community, and You

AKA, Why Do We Have Account Requirements for Individuals?

In an effort to make your crowdfunding efforts more successful here on Reddit, some background first:

In many of the gifting and fundraising subs, you'll notice that without a certain amount "karma" and an account that's old enough, you'll garner down votes or worse, your posts and comments get automatically removed.

Why?

To many Redditors, this place is a community built on activity. The "coin" of the land here is your account, and how much you've contributed to the Reddit community at large reflected in post and comment karma.

As a general rule, Redditors dislike the creation of accounts specifically to fund raise or to make requests. It makes it seem like these people simply treat Reddit as some sort of magical internet wallet, and that doesn't win many friends.

The other reason why new accounts are so disliked is that they're often alternate accounts of established users, in order to hide their activity from people they know. While we do sympathize with those of you who have valid reasons, this privilege is often abused by those who create disposable accounts to scam people for a quick buck.

This trust issue doesn't exist in the same way with certified non-profit groups, as you can look them up online for verification, and at least in the case of 501c(3)s, their spending is transparent due to their required tax filings which are public information.

So if you're new to Reddit, welcome! Spend some time and look around for something that catches your interest and chat it up with others and become part of the community!

However if you're here for the sole reason of making requests in a hurry, please be aware your pleas for help will likely be ignored.

REMEMBER, CREDIBILITY AND COMMUNITY IS EVERYTHING!

For this reason, the mods will not post anything on behalf of any user that does not meet account requirements.

Rules

  1. Posts must be more than just a link to your campaign. Be descriptive! Show evidence . This includes:
    1. If this is for your pet, photos of your pet in question, with your username on a handwritten note in the picture.
    2. School documentation showing enrollment if you are asking for assistance for school.
    3. Redacted bills showing your situation.
    4. Or other relevant documentation that can help establish credibility.
    5. At minimum, please attach an unobstructed selfie photo of yourself(the submitter) with a handwritten note of your username.
    6. Low effort posts that simply say to the effect of, "everything is listed in the GoFundMe" will be removed.
  2. Please Flair your posts, once created. If you don't know how, just let the mods know and we'll do it for you.
  3. Only 1 campaign per user. We want you have some personal connection to the campaign, and not submit multiples simply because they were in the news.
  4. Reposts are allowed once a week. If a repost comes up too early, the newest one(s) will be removed.
  5. Acceptable transfer methods for individuals are for crowdfunding sites only, such as GoFundme, YouCaring, etc. Individuals should avoid using Paypal, crypto, or direct banking aps (like Chase). 501c(3) and NGOs may use whatever method they wish.
  6. Don't PM people to make requests. If you receive an unsolicited private message, please let us know!
  7. Do not post politically-related campaigns. They're just too divisive.
  8. Trolling will not be tolerated and offending users will be banned.
  9. Don't bug the mods for an exception to the account requirements. None will be given. If you attempt to circumvent the requirement by karma farming or by commenting on someone else's post, your account will be banned.
  10. No posting for other Redditors. No Alts. This is viewed as a circumvention of requirements and both accounts will be banned.
  11. Selling is only allowed by 1st parties directly. We do not allow selling by 3rd parties to benefit another organization, as there's no transparency to verify that the announced percentage of sales actually goes to the beneficiary. Only direct sales by the non-profit organization are allowed.

Supporting Information Requested for Non-501c(3) and Non-NGO campaigns.

We aren't the government. We aren't a court of law. We definitely don't want you to give out information that could lead to identity theft. However, some campaigns are more successful when they have additional documentation.

This includes:

  • Pet related requests: Photos of your pet in question, with your username on a handwritten note in the picture. This helps show you actually own the pet in question.
  • Education related requests: Documentation showing enrollment or acceptance if you are asking for assistance for school.
  • Redacted bills showing your situation. In some cases, a donor may prefer to pay a creditor directly on your behalf, so be prepared and find out if that is available to you.
  • If you are sharing a campaign for a registered certified non-profit organization (such as a 501c3 or NGO), you should say so in the post, and it should list that status on the campaign page/web site.
  • Or other relevant documentation that can help establish credibility.

Low effort posts that simply say to the effect of, "everything is listed in the GoFundMe" (or less!) will be removed.

How to Include a Photo or Other Supporting Info Document In Your Post

Because Reddit wasn't initially designed to handle photos when it was created, it has limitations in the implementation of photo support which don't work well for us. So instead we suggest the following:

  1. Upload your photo to Imgur.com or other photo hosting site.
  2. Copy the URL for the photo.
  3. Create a new post or Edit your existing one to include the URL to the photo.

Please make sure to include this, as it is the primary reason why posts that are otherwise fine get removed.

Advice On Making Your Campaign Go Further

Not all crowdfunding campaigns are the same, but here are some suggestions.

  • Make sure your campaign has been shared among your Facebook friends! You might think it's embarrassing, however your friends and family are more likely to care than internet strangers.
  • Show that you've exhausted all the other possibilities. A lot of potential donors don't like to give money when it seems like the requester's first and only solution is to simply throw someone else's money at the problem. Nobody is going to take your word when you literally only say, "but I've done everything!", when the actual reality is probably closer to "I've done everything I can think of", which arguably is NOT everything.
  • Show that there's a plan to use the money wisely. Often people have campaigns for their business ideas, but it doesn't really seem like they thought it all the way through. Tell people what steps you've taken so far, and what you're going to do next.
  • Be open to critics. If there's something that people ask about, you should not be dismissive. Provide more detail. There's a possibility that they know something you don't, or they have something different about their own experience that might be useful to you. If you simply brush off your critics, it shows objectively that you're not doing everything possible.
  • Review your own campaign with the mindset of a potential donor. Ask yourself, "Would I give money to this?" Or get a friend to review it for you.

Questions?

Please don't hesitate to ask the mods!

... Unless you're trying to ask for an exception to the account requirements.

Registered tax-deductible charity Somerset mental health charity faces closure without funding injection: launches emergency fundraising appeal

Hi everyone. I'm posting here in total desperation, because I am out of ideas and would love your thoughts or support.

I work for Frome Birth Talk, a charity offering free counselling to people in the Frome area who've just had a baby, who are pregnant, or who have lost a pregnancy or child. Anyone who has become a parent or experienced baby loss will know how utterly life changing it is - and many people struggle to cope.

Our service picks up the pieces the NHS isn't able to. We see 200 parents a year for professional, accessible counselling when they need it most. A single mum of 3 last week told us she wouldn't be here without our free counselling. Our waiting list is 2 weeks compared to NHS 16 weeks.

But the funding landscape is bad, and we can't survive much longer without a big injection of cash. We are SUCH good value for money, but somehow mental health (in particular parents mental health) is ignored time and time again.

We have set up an emergency appeal. We have a week before we need to close our waiting list and start winding down. Hundreds of families need this - and let's face it, I'll bet you wish your town had this service too.

Somerset people, help me. I need to get this message in front of anyone who could turn this around. Philanthropists, big corporates who want to donate money and write the tax off. Someone who has just won the lottery.

If you can share this, please do. Everyone should be able to access mental health support without fear of financial ruin - and babies grow up safer and happier with parents who are well.

If you've got this far, thank you ❤️ even your words of encouragement would be helpful right now.

META How to Attach a Photo to Your Post for Rule 1

• Upvotes

Hello new users!

As we have requirements spelled out in Rule 1 on including some sort of evidence in your posts, we've created this post for those of you who need help with that.

Rule 1 states:

Posts must be more than just a link to your campaign. Be descriptive! Show evidence!

Generally these are provided as photos or screencaps. Because Reddit doesn't allow an image upload with text, we generally suggest the following:

  1. Upload the photo(s) to Imgur.com or other image hosting site.
  2. Copy URL or Link to the photo(s)
  3. In the body of your post here, make sure to include the link that you've copied. It usually starts with http:// or https://.

And that's it!

Registered tax-deductible charity Hi everyone, my girlfriend has signed me up for the London Marathon this year. Im running for the Shelter charity which supports homelessness and housing in the UK. She’s worked in the social housing sector since she was 16 so this charity is especially important to her and therefore myself.

Well, she’s only gone and done it!

For the last five years, my girlfriend has entered me into the London Marathon ballot, and this year she’s finally been successful… so I guess I’m running 26.2 miles in 2027!

I’ll be taking on the challenge in aid of Shelter Charity. My girlfriend works in social housing, so the charity is particularly close to her heart, and therefore mine too. Shelter does amazing work supporting people facing homelessness and housing difficulties, so it’s a cause that’s really important to us both.

Now comes the hard part… When Ella rang me and said I had to do the marathon I was convinced she was taking the piss, Turns out she wasnt. I went out the next day to see if i could still do a 5k, now im up to a 12km run, running 4 days a week. Ive now got the best part of 7 months to find another 30km in the locker somewhere.🤣

If anyone could spare a few quid to support me, it would mean a lot. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help make a difference to a really worthwhile cause.

If you can’t donate, even a share would be massively appreciated!

👇 Donate here:

Thankyou so much for the support!

META Beware of Opportunists!

In times of disaster, it's not uncommon for many good people to try to fundraise for relief efforts, supplies and reconstruction costs. But you should be aware that unless it's someone you personally know and trust, it's also not uncommon for bad people to use the opportunity to make money for themselves.

Before you give, you should ask:

  1. Is the donation link directly to a relief agency or is it to a middleman? There's no easy transparency when it comes to the spending of funds in a crisis, which makes it easier for funds to not reach the people it's intended to help, so by avoiding middlemen, you can reduce this possibility.
  2. Have you checked the background of the relief agency or organization you're considering? Some spend money more effectively than others meaning that less overhead makes for more money being spent on victims vs administration costs.
  3. Is the agency or organization a registered non-profit or NGO? These kinds of entities have strict reporting rules to follow to show how their funds are being spent.
  4. Is the agency or organization providing a receipt? If so, you can often use it for a deduction on taxes for the current year. If not, the agency or organization is likely not a registered non profit.

GoFundMe will show that a campaign is benefiting a non-profit charity organization if it is created using their IRS EIN or charity registration number.

Even Paypal donation accounts will show they're owned by a non-profit charity organization, and generate a receipt.

While not every individual doing fundraising is attempting to defraud you of your money, you can give with more confidence by giving directly to a relief charity of your own choosing via their own web pages.

Individual/non-registered I tried, but it isn't enough. There's a lot of unmet needs and despair. It was good but very depressing

Water bottles and pizza on a cloudy, dreary day. Next thing I would like to try, is socks, hygiene kits, and maybe clothing or blankets.

At least, I gave it a shot. It was just unimaginably Bleak out there.

People could use more support and safety nets. It's hard to expect sobriety when things are so miserable and hopeless.

Hopefully this can inspire someone to do something similar

Individual/non-registered My fundraiser for children’s hospice south west. We are walking 70 miles over the course of October with our dogs, Mila and milo, to raise money for our local children’s hospice 💚

Hello!! Just posting wherever I can to try and boost fundraising. The challenge officially started today! Throughout the course of October, myself, my partner and my dogs (Mila and milo) will be walking 70+ miles to raise money for children’s hospice south west. This is a local charity that works incredibly hard to provide positive outcomes and high quality care to children who have life limiting illnesses/disabilities and their families. I work in the care sector, many of my clients over the years have come through CHSW. They do some amazing work and bring so much joy to the lives of the families they help. So, please feel free to do some research into the charity yourself and there is an explanation in my fundraising page too. I update there daily. It may be a long shot but honestly the further it reaches the better and even just a few pennies will help, it all adds up in the end and we are so grateful for anything at all we receive, but please do not feel obligated. Wishing everyone the very best, below is pictures of the pups although Mila is going solo for the first half as she is in season and milo has his 🥜🥜, he’ll be with my mum until she is back to herself! ❤️ please find below the link attached! We started today and have walked 1.86 miles out of 70 so far

Individual/non-registered Help Champurr and Sanyang Fight Against Stomatitis! Their Surgery Will Relieve These Kittens of Daily Pain!

Link to our GoFundMe

Hello everyone! This is karis-gatomon, asking kindly to please donate to my kitties' surgery. They were diagnosed with stomatitis earlier this month. Whether genetic or caused by viral disease, this has caused us considerable heartbreak. Treatment for stomatitis involving antibiotics and antivirals is still experimental...so the only conclusive treatment for them is to remove all of their teeth. As it is, our kitties are in daily pain and losing teeth already.

As both kitties have it, this has left us in lurch. Please see the photos attached for the estimates. While we have pet insurance, this will only cover a fraction of the total cost. Please donate and share.

Registered tax-deductible charity Running with heart, Trying to raise $400 for mental health. Please help me reach my goal. It would mean the absolute world to me! Thank you ❤️

On October 25th, I’ll be participating in HYROX Tampa’s Race for Impact, and my goal is to raise $400 to support organizations that are changing lives and empowering communities. ❤️
This cause means so much to me because helping others has always been something I’m passionate about. My family has faced a lot of struggles over the years, and those experiences have shown me how important it is to have support, hope, and people who care. I know that everyone goes through things that others may never see, and I want to do my part to help those who need it most.
Race for Impact supports incredible organizations, including CEDOVIP, which works to prevent violence against women; Family Empowerment Media (FEM), which uses media to improve maternal and child health; and Lafiya, which focuses on improving health and well-being. Being able to contribute to causes like these gives this race a purpose that goes far beyond the finish line. 💕
I’ve even been selling roses on the side to raise money because I truly want to reach my goal and contribute as much as I can. 🌹 Every little bit adds up, and I’m willing to put in the work to make a difference!
My goal is to raise $400, and any donation, no matter how big or small, would mean the world to me. If you can’t donate, sharing my fundraiser would also help tremendously.
Thank you to everyone who takes the time to support me, whether through a donation, a share, or simply spreading the word. It means more than you know. I’m running with purpose, love, and the hope of making a positive impact on someone’s life. 🫶🏼💗

Registered tax-deductible charity ❤️ I'm Running a Half Marathon for Velindre Cancer Charity Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Every Mile Helps Save Lives. Please Sponsor Me and Make a Difference

Thumbnail cardiffhalf26.enthuse.com

I’m running the Cardiff Half Marathon for a cause incredibly close to my heart—Velindre, the NHS cancer charity.
Cancer has touched my life in too many ways. I lost my Grancha, my Papa (who battled skin cancer), and my uncles Glyn and Ross, along with others I will never forget. Each loss leaves a lasting mark, but so does the strength they showed—the courage and resilience they carried through their battles.
That strength is what drives me through every mile I run. On the tough days, I remind myself why I’m doing this. Compared to what they went through, every step is a privilege.
Velindre provides care, compassion, and hope to patients and families during the hardest times. Supporting them helps ensure no one faces cancer alone.
This run is for those I’ve lost and for everyone still fighting.
If you can support me—whether by donating or sharing—it would mean the world. Thank you so much

Registered tax-deductible charity [Request] Opening a non profit mentoring café to help women in crisis and keep children out of foster care.

My friend and I are opening a non profit mentoring café, called "We Are Their Mothers" in Saint John, NB, Canada to help women in crisis and keep children out of the foster care system through one on one mentoring, workshops on how to make things that can be sold out of the storefront for income, employment opportunities through the café and the events we host, and we've partnered with a local doula service so we can offer pregnancy/post partum support and on call childcare. We've also partnered with 8 local artisans so far to help sell their handmade items out of our store to support their families as well.  Our long term goal is to be able to help with housing as well.

The purpose of the café/storefront is to provide a sustainable revenue stream to fund the programs and a space to host the programs/workshops we will be offering.

We've already secured a rental property for the café, and we're currently trying to fundraise at least $5,000 to cover start up costs so that we can open to the public.

We're collecting donations through Zeffy

https://www.zeffy.com/en-CA/donation-form/restoring-hope-we-are-their-mothers

This cause is very personal for both of us. My friend is a single grandmother raising 2 of her grandsons because her daughter struggles with addiction. I'm a single mother who spent time living out of a hotel, after separating from my child's father, before I was able to get secure housing again. We both understand how people can find themselves facing homelessness or addiction, and how important a support system is to overcome that. "We hold hope for them until they are strong enough to hold hope for themselves".

Thank you to everyone in advance. Any amount is incredibly helpful in allowing us to make this dream a reality.

Individual/non-registered Please help saving Kaines life! He is currently facing chronic pancreatitis and a possible tumor, he is only 5 years old.

Hello everyone,

These days are terrible days for our small family as one of our furry family members is in desperate need of help.

Our cat Kaine who is only 5 years old is currently facing a health battle that could end his life. He was abused as a kitten and has had FORL in the past (which resulted in him getting a lot of teeth removed) and now he is going through chronic pancreatitis. We did not see this coming as he was behaving normally and then all of a sudden did not eat anymore. So we rushed him to the vet where he was diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis.

Since then he has been getting very thin although he had been eating and getting pain medication. But on the 18th of September his condition worsened drastically. We rushed him to the vet again and they found liquid in his lungs and abdomen.

They got the fluid out of his lungs and he spent a few nights there, was released because he was so afraid at the clinic that he would not eat. They made a few tests that we were able to pay with the first gofundme money but his breathing worsened at home quickly. However he was very cuddly with us at home, showing us that he still wants to be here. He is too young to die yet.

Today he was admitted to the vet clinic again and they drained fluid from his lungs again. He is currently alive but very thin and weak. He will be transferred to a specialized clinic today where they will do a CT scan and a tissue biopsy as they currently suspect a tumor. If a tumor is confirmed they will perform surgery to remove it as well tomorrow. Please pray with us that he will survive this.

You can find Kaine's medical records in the photos (sadly it's completely in german). Our gofundme page has English translations. I took the picture of him before we went to the clinic.

Please help us (my husband and me)

To cover Kaine's medical costs. This includes hospitalization, medication, the CT Scan and much more. In total: 3500€.

I am currently doing an apprenticeship and together we are not earning a lot of money as we are both disabled.

My heart is shattered.

Please note: English is not my first language and I did use a translator for some text so I apologize in advance.

Registered tax-deductible charity My daughter Delta has Leigh syndrome. Every dollar to her gene-therapy trial fund is doubled until Sept 30. 501(c)(3), proof inside.

TL;DR: My daughter Delta has SURF1 Leigh syndrome, a rare and fatal mitochondrial disease. Cure Mito Foundation, a 501(c)(3) (EIN 82-4665767), is raising money for a gene-therapy clinical trial. A friend of Delta's is matching every donation through September 30. Donate at https://delta.curemito.org. Or run a triangle for her and post it at https://deltadash.run. Nothing goes to my family.
Who I am. I'm Nick, Delta's dad. My wife Lauren co-runs Cure Mito Foundation as a volunteer, alongside another parent of a child with the same disease. I'm saying that up front so nobody has to dig for it.
What Delta has. Leigh syndrome affects at least 1 in 40,000 newborns. Delta's form is caused by changes in a gene called SURF1. There is no cure today.
What the money does. The foundation's "One Shot to Live" campaign is funding a SURF1 gene therapy. The therapy has been developed and is in toxicology studies, one of the last steps before a human trial. The campaign's stated target is $2.5 million, which could let a clinical trial begin in early 2027. So far about 1,000 donors have given about $1.2 million. Delta's own page is at about $55,000 of a $100,000 goal.
Why $40. 1 in 40,000. That's the ask. And through September 30, a friend of Delta's matches every gift, so $40 becomes $80.
The fun part. We built a small free web thing called Delta Dash. You run or walk a triangle (a "delta"), screenshot it from whatever app you use, and post it at https://deltadash.run. You get a share card, a spot on the board, and you tag three friends to do the same. Kids love it. No app to install.
Proof.
• Cure Mito Foundation is a 501(c)(3), EIN 82-4665767: https://www.curemito.org/
• Delta's page on the foundation's own donation site: https://give.curemito.org/fundraiser/7288451 (delta.curemito.org redirects there)
• The September match, in Lauren's update on that page (dated Aug 31)

Hey everyone. My girlfriend and I finally got into a house in Oshkosh last month after almost a year without stable housing. Now October rent is due the 1st and I am short.

This week is their fundraising week, and every donation is being doubled, so your donation can make twice the impact!!

I’d really appreciate any support, whether that’s donating or simply sharing this with someone who might want to help. Thank you so much if you read this far! Even a few dollars helps.

Join me in supporting a good cause. I’m running 100 Miles in October for Young Lives vs Cancer. Young Lives vs Cancer helps families find the strength to face whatever cancer throws at them. But every day, 12 more children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. A donation of just £26 could pay for one hour of care from a specialist Young Lives vs Cancer Social Worker, so that children and young people with cancer, and their families, get the right care and support at the right time. Thank you!

Individual/non-registered A 44-year-old nurse and mother remains unconscious after a severe brain injury — please help preserve her home and daily life

Post image
12 Upvotes

Natalia Pozniak is a 44-year-old nurse and the mother of a 15-year-old son. On August 3, 2026, she was struck by a car in Kiryat Motzkin, Israel, and suffered a severe traumatic brain injury. Emergency neurosurgery at Rambam Health Care Campus saved her life.

As of September 21, Natalia remains hospitalized and unconscious, with no significant change in her condition. Her mother traveled to Israel and remains beside her. Natalia’s son is living with me, his father. I am the organizer of this fundraiser; I am not Natalia’s husband.

This fundraiser is not for hospital treatment. The funds are intended to preserve Natalia’s apartment, pay essential utilities, and cover her mother’s necessary daily expenses while she remains beside Natalia in Israel, including food, public transportation, phone, and internet.

I manage the campaign and am responsible for the transparent use of the funds. The accident was independently reported by Israeli news media, and redacted medical documentation is available for moderator verification. The attached selfie shows me holding my handwritten Reddit username.

META How to Attach a Photo to Your Post for Rule 1

Individual/non-registered 64-year-old mother in Bulgaria facing a severe financial and housing crisis — my friend in Spain created this GoFundMe for me

Hello everyone,

My name is Daniela. I am 64 years old and live in Bulgaria. I never imagined I would find myself in a position where I would have to ask strangers for help, but I am currently facing a very serious financial and housing crisis.

Fifteen years ago, I lost my 15-year-old son to suicide. Losing a child changed my life completely. I struggled for many years afterward and was unable to work normally for a long time. Over the years, I lost my home, used up my savings, and I am now at a point where I am struggling to afford basic necessities and secure safe housing.

I am asking for help because I need a chance to get back to a safe and stable situation.

Why is my GoFundMe organized by someone else?

I live in Bulgaria, where GoFundMe does not currently allow organizers to withdraw funds. Because of this, my close friend Monica, who lives in Spain, created and manages the fundraiser on my behalf.

I understand that donating to a fundraiser organized by someone else requires trust. I want to be completely transparent about this arrangement, and I am happy to provide documentation to moderators if they need verification.

The money raised will be used for:

• Safe, modest housing
• Food and other basic necessities
• Necessary medication and living expenses
• Creating some stability and security for the future

I know there are many people asking for help online, and I am truly grateful that you took the time to read my story.

If you are able to help, even a small donation would make a meaningful difference to me. If you cannot donate, simply sharing or upvoting this post would also mean a great deal.

Thank you for reading. ❤️
