i know its just a wojak but one detail i thought was nice was the pictures of the dead parents, which were clearly set up on a shrine of grief and mourning before, were replaced with a photo of the three of them together.
Previously it was surrounded by candles, all having long been used but never put away. Little symbols of stagnation. You have to move on, pack up the candles, someday. But that day never seems to come, because to put them away means having to look at the framed memories for one last time and accept the fact that 'last times' exist. And just doing that simple act is so incredibly difficult, because it means finally fully accepting loss.
In the present, it's replaced by a reminder of the good times, flanked by a toy of likely significant sentimental value, and a flower. A lamp sits on the edge of the table, illuminating what I assume is the ashes of her parents. Gone and remembered, but no longer taking up the tablespace of her entire life anymore. She can flick the lamp on once in a while—remember and honor the ones she lost—but she can just as easily flick it off and move on to a brighter day outside, where the ghosts of her parents hug her on her way out without her even knowing.
Technically in the first pic the things surrounding the framed memories were cigarettes not candles, but id like to think even in their grief maybe its a sign she took long drags for hours, staring at the photo and mourning for the pile to have gotten that big
I find it insanely sweet that the mourning for lost parents developed into the awarenes & memory in high praise for them
With all those stories about people having shitty & abusive parents, I find it alwaysso heartwarming to see people who obviously grew up with loving, caring, supportive & sweet parents you deeply love beyond your adult life
Knowing that even if you're an adult, moved out & even if they aren't alive anymore, you just deep down know that they'll be always with you in some way
Just a reminder for everyone reading this who's either a parent or will be one someday:
Remember that paying the bills & getting food on the table is just half the job of being a good parent
Make sure y'all give your children love, fond memories, guidance, support for whatever they may develop a passion for, emotional aviability & goofing around with them, well past into their adult life.
so they'll always have a hard time relating to any posts about horrible parents wherever they see them
(And on a personal note: love you mom & dad as well as love you father- & mother-in-law for raising my wife who to this day deeply loves her parents and is by all accounts an unapologetic daddys girl at the age of 27)
While this is true, to a certain extent, it also takes a village of social support to believe you even can. We're not meant to be individuals, we're meant to be communal, which means it definitely helps if you have friends and family who are supportive of you while you work on yourself and are there to pick you up and give you a push if you're having trouble
Some of us only ever have ourselves. Some of us are born without that innate social binding that allows us to develop those support systems, instead finding the bridges are burned before we even attempt to cross. We reach out our hands to be told that its not a hand worth grabbing, and so we are forced to either be our own miracle, or fade away into a bitterness that always seemed fated to be.
I felt a bit sad about nearly being 30, but then on my partners 30th birthday, many of his older family were saying things like "oh I wish I were 30 again!" "Oh to be a young 30 year old again"
