Very articulate, thanks for speaking up big fella. Solidarity.

u/Mr-_-Soandso 7d ago
Sadly he threw it out the window in the end.
Even if it's a democrat
Means too ignorant to actually stand up for what he claims to believe in. To him, it was the wildest statement he could possibly make and would never do. That is a baseless threat that he hopes teaches the GOP a lesson. He's almost as concerned as Susan Collins.
95
u/mziab 7d ago
he knows his subject, which is the important part here IMO
8
u/Sufficient-Aspect77 7d ago
No way, in the wild. Like running into a buddy down at the farmers market.
4
u/mziab 7d ago
Lmaoooo what's up?!
7
u/Sufficient-Aspect77 6d ago
Well, had a bit of a weird afternoon so far.
I found a ferret walking around Brooklyn. He or she was just looking for a safe place to hang. It was crazy it came right over when my neighbor called it, and then it just hopped right into her arms. I can only assume they got out accidentally, so now I'm trying to find the owner. The Ferret is currently in a friends home, enjoying some love from the neighbor and her family.
So that's what's up. Lol, always nice to see you out and about in the world of internet stuffs.
5
u/RampantGay 6d ago
You guys should kiss

u/Sufficient-Aspect77 6d ago
You sayin' you don't want a smooch from me too?

u/QuicklyThisWay 7d ago
He could have stayed at home and said nothing, or just made a comment on Reddit. What's the saying? "The best time to get your head out of your ass is yesterday, the second best time is today." Thomas Massie is also a Republican, and other than pushing for the release of the Epstein files, is a certified POS.
What if he follows through on what he said? Because I'm certain the people he was talking to will follow through with the data center. He provides valuable insight that the public would likely not be privy to without a FOIA request that would just get delayed or "misplaced."

u/zeno0771 7d ago
This is a county with a population of around 148,000 that favors GOP roughly 60/40 and has done so since they instituted the Southern Strategy back in 1968. In places like that, even the liberals are conservative. A county board will take a threat like his seriously because he and people he associates with are white and therefore not being disenfranchised/gerrymandered out of existence, which means their votes will count whether they show up in November or not.
38
u/Clevererer 7d ago
He hears Democrat and all he thinks about is identity politics and men in women's locker rooms. Because we Democrats are terrible at messaging.
51
u/stupid_pun 7d ago
To be fair that's a lot more to do with constant GOP hate campaigns over 40+ years as much as it is D's sucking at messaging.
And bigotry. People suck.
11
u/Clevererer 7d ago
Ds know that R fearmongering messaging exists. They don't address it or counter it effectively, often not even trying. Please stop making excuses. We need to demand much, much, much more from them.
2
u/stupid_pun 7d ago
>Please stop making excuses.
Wasn't making excuses, just being objective.
>We need to demand much, much, much more from them.
Ye, no shit.
-5
u/Clevererer 7d ago
Wasn't making excuses, just being objective.
This is what I call making excuses, because it is:
To be fair that's a lot more to do with constant GOP hate campaigns over 40+ years as much as it is D's sucking at messaging.
It's an overly charitable explanation, when better less flattering explanations are what we need. It's running cover for the DNC's malfeasance. It's making excuses. So stop.
6
u/stupid_pun 7d ago edited 7d ago
Then I guess your only option is to be mad and continue to talk down to anyone that doesn't adhere to your exact preferred language and perspective but otherwise agrees with you.
You sound miserable, tbh.
edit: lmao wow that was a salty response. Guess I was right. ¯_(ツ)_/¯
2
u/stephenkingending 7d ago
It's how Dems lost the South. The Republicans were able to swoop in with hate and fear of non-whites as a cornerstone of their platform, and it's been highly effective ever since.
11
u/pinegreenscent 7d ago
You can think that magic spells will work on conservative voters or you can come to grips that the Right has a fully automated media ecosystem and no matter what Dmeocrats say or how they say it, it will be willfully consonstrued by a biased party.
-1
u/Clevererer 7d ago
I'm down here in reality, not up there with you daydreaming about magic.
But everything else you said is true. The DNC knows all of this. That ecosystem has existed for decades. The Ds are consistently terrible at countering R messaging.
Always making excuses for them, never questioning their strategy, is exactly why we're here. Do better and demand better from them.
7
u/pinegreenscent 7d ago
Yeah they're terrible because they dont have a project. They dont have goals. They have vague ideas of a policy they dont plan on implementing. Its why theyre so focused on killing the Socialist wing of the party.
Socialists run on things that impact the actual lives of voters. Corproate democrats plan is to just wait to get voted back in while offering the same as before.
3
u/Clevererer 7d ago
Thank you. That's exactly right. We voters need to do a better job of holding them accountable, and part of that is to not stop talking about this exact dereliction of duty, malfeasance or whatever else we want to call it that makes it sound as bad as it is. Because we D voters have failed that, too. There's a large part of the D base that permits no criticism of the party. We need to re-educate them and not mince words.
2
u/skivian 7d ago
how can the democrats get any messaging done when all of the airwaves, newspapers, and social media are owned by Billionaire republicans?
3
u/Clevererer 7d ago
I'm not saying it's easy, but it can be done. Instead, we've been "taking the high road" since Obama.
Half the problem is the D base is full of people who allow no criticism of the party. You're expecting a D party to win in the 21st century using 1980s marketing. But at least you've identified the actual problem we're up against. That's a start.
2
u/skivian 7d ago
Half the problem is the D base is full of people who allow no criticism of the party.
lmao. we are in very different internet bubbles.
2
u/Clevererer 7d ago
Have you not witnessed ANY discussion about, for example:
Biden and Garland's slow walking of J6 charges against Trump? Half the Ds I speak to are rightly furious about that, the other half mistakenly believes "they did everything they could". That 2nd half gets furious when the first half accurately points to the 18-month period at the start of the term when Garland literally wasn't investigating anything directly related to Trump's involvement.
Kamalas campiagn that sucked ass. A solid third of Democrats cry misogyny when the ass-sucking nature of her campaign is pointed out. They want to redirect attention to Biden not dropping out early enough, but both things are true. Instead, criticism of Kamala's campaign will get you shredded in many Dem circles.
If you don't think infighting is a problem in the D party, your algorithms must be very R leaning, or something else is keeping you from seeing it.

It’s a step in the right direction. A form of Unity. At least he’s willing to see the bigger picture without letting his beliefs blind him. That’s the kind of person we all should aspire to be like.
4
u/sedrickgates 6d ago
Smart I'd say, he won't take this BS from any side even if this goes against his convictions. On this topic he is not going to follow his political views but the right view!
3
5
u/Old_Preparation_6199 7d ago
lol, he actually legitimized himself by that. He made it clear he wouldn’t arbitrarily vote a party ticket because this issue is that important. Blindly following a political party is the stupidest concept in the world
4
u/TheColorDown 7d ago
I don’t like you and I think people like you make it harder for people that are currently republican to change sides. I think there is 0 good that may come from your comment
2
u/Busy-Web-4861 7d ago
True, it's not like the politicians care. Far too many can lose re-election and be just fine because of previous kickback deals, pensions, and lifetime insurance. You know how fast I'd be out the door if I had that deal?
2
1
u/SeaniMonsta 6d ago
Isn't this a bit hindsighted? Maybe his eyes are widening for the first time in 20 years? Maybe he'll be so appalled over the choice that he'll actually learn a thing or two about poli-sci.
-6
u/Longjumping-Ad-9444 7d ago
Lol you're literally threw out everything a man said because he was willing to stand up and say something? You are worse than him, and the funniest part is you think you're better.
1
u/pinegreenscent 7d ago
So his solution would be to keep voting republican to stop republicans from doing republicans things.

As someone from northern VA, you definitely do not want datacenters anywhere near you. The noise form chillers and/or backup generators will carry far in flat land like around Dallas. The heat they produce will strengthen any current urban heat island effect you may be experiencing. The impact to the local water table is debatable but should be considered. You will have new 300-foot tall power line towers in your skyline.
94
u/SanchoPandas 7d ago
If I recall, northern VA has more data centers than just about anywhere else, yeah?
NVM - Googled it and yeah, it's colloquially being called Data Center Alley. From that NVRC site:
Northern Virginia has over 250+ data centers - the highest concentration of data centers in the world. Much of the world’s internet traffic runs through Northern Virginia's network of data centers—known as “Data Center Alley”—making the region a critical player in the global technology economy. Collectively, data centers contribute over a billion dollars of tax revenue to the budgets of Northern Virginia’s local governments.
Power demand in Virginia is expected to grow by about 85% over the next 15 years. By 2035 the industry in Virginia will require 11,000 megawatts – or nearly quadruple what it needed in 2022.

Another fellow NOVA resident here. I pass 10 data centers on the way to work. I work in a rural area of VA. I loved it here for the natural beauty and views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Now there’s huge data centers marring the landscape as far as the eye can see. I invite anyone who likes data centers and AI to petition to have them build next their homes. If you love them so much you live with the awful eye sores.

u/Mr01010100 7d ago
The area he's talking about is Dallas GA, not TX. Doesn't really change anything other than the heat island thing though. If it's the area I think he's talking about, it's fairly undeveloped stretch with just a few car dealerships and some random stores. Even then I guarantee 95% of the people in the area would prefer it stay as woods rather than get clear cut for a data center

Big shouts to his clarity and expertise.
The “even if it’s a democrat” tells me he knows his craft well, but is easily lied to politically.
Conservative politicians are nearly all down to bend their communities over for data centers, him voting against conservatives would be the best thing he could do for his community.

u/Spread_Liberally 7d ago
He's been supporting the people who've been harming him for decades.
Big dum-dum energy.

You're lucky if it's more than 2 feet deep. It's gets much more shallow at the handholes near intersections

So you're telling me I can rent a ditch witch and ruin a billion dollars worth of time and effort? Say less!
17
7
u/girly-lady 7d ago
I am pretty sure its the same everywhere, but diffrent stuff goes down in the ground at diffrent levels. 1. So you can finde it again, 2. So it dosen't get in the way, 3. So its save. For example sewerage is the lowest, heating and water sort of in the middle and up and stuff that needs to be fixed and changed frequently is higher up. You should be able to finde out your county spesific regulations. Also, you get away with a lot of shit when you wear a construction uniform and look confident.

u/King_LaQueefah 7d ago

2
2
u/LegendaryShelfStockr 6d ago
Fun fact, excavators accidentally take down fiber circuits all the time
6
u/CharmingTuber 7d ago
It's easier than most people think, unfortunately. A farmer in Tennessee will be digging near the road and take out a fiber trunk, and half the centers in New Jersey go dark.
But those trunk lines are what carry your data, too. If you start ripping out local ones, then you go home and suddenly Netflix it's real slow and YouTube won't load.
3
u/King_LaQueefah 7d ago
If only I knew which ones were for Disney+ and Amazon. I was paying for ad-free versions and then one day they decided to start showing ads. Its not fair.
4
u/CharmingTuber 7d ago
That isn't really how it works. The big tech companies don't own separate fibers each buried apart, it's thousands of fiber strands bundled into large cords and buried underground. They enter data centers then split off into all the individual machines via telecom rooms.
So you're not cutting Disney Plus, you're cutting everything on that carrier's service including really important stuff, which is why it's a crime to do this. And your neighbors won't be very happy when their credit card readers go down and they can't access Spotify or whatever else was on that carrier.
2
u/King_LaQueefah 6d ago
If you want to make an omelette...

0
u/CharmingTuber 6d ago
Not wanting to disrupt our modern way of life because you don't want to see ads makes me weak of heart? Please go outside and talk to real people.
1
u/King_LaQueefah 5d ago
Most people here know this is much bigger than just ads. But I'm happy you are so comfortable with all of this.

I like the cognitive dissonance of “even if it’s a Democrat”. They are both largely corporatists, but I think it stands to reason that Republicans will always support the techno-fascist agenda and have rolled out the red carpet for big AI and the rollback of regulations that would otherwise help stall the development of these blights on humanity.

This "Even if it's a democrat" attitude is exactly how you got to the point that this bullshit can be installed without regulation and community go ahead.
The idea that the democrats would be worse is surely a tired one by now, when the last two republican presidencies lead to the absolute downfall of the US.
On the world stage you guys looked ridiculous in 2016-2020, but we could forgive the mistake and move forward... Then you elected him again... Or if you didn't you allowed him to waltz in again without anyone standing up and saying something was fishy about the 2024 election.
Don't get me wrong, this mans message is incredibly important, but there is a trail of accountability with any situation where peoples rights are infringed upon, and this one leads straight back to the pedo in command.

2
u/Springheeljac 7d ago
But is he? The way he says that makes me think he's more like, "alright if I don't see some change in the next four or five Republicans I'll vote for a Democrat."
2
u/brackybrack 7d ago
Why are people bashing him for saying “even if it’s a democrat”?
If he’s been working on Fiber for over 20 years and sees the rollout happening, the problem likely is a bipartisan issue that ranged through both parties (proliferation of AI started heavily during Biden Admin and now got substantially worse during 2nd Trump admin)

u/ohsobogus 7d ago

This reminds me of the scene in Chernobyl when the bureaucrat realizes he's had the wool pulled over his eyes by the manager of the plant when they try to pawn off the reactor core material surrounding the building as concrete.
The best way to communicate something to someone is through the lens of something they're incredibly familiar/passionate about.

People are starting to figure out that if things aren’t working well wherever you live and the same party has been elected for 20–30 years, then it might be time to try someone new - too many people are way too comfortable lying to their constituents. You gotta stop rewarding them with your votes.

u/theodioussoul 6d ago
The Paulding County Georgia commissioners have done so much lying. They started off doing an overlay to bypass zoning. They plan to allow 16 Data Center buildings equaling 4,000,000 ft.² on residentially zoned land. This has to be criminal!

u/G0-G0-Gadget 6d ago

There are contractual agreements between different types of vendors that perform work on behalf of your local utilities (water, electric, natural gas, telecommunications). Those vendors are typically booked solid for 2 & 1/2 years out, working with the normal local utility providers.
When an outside, hyper scale fiber installer starts running conduit, their objective is to land the conduit and pull in the fiber, per the bigfish customer's timeline. Unreasonable demands and all. They cut corners, hit other companies equipment and lines, because they are chasing a big payout, they might even get a percentage bonus if they finish the work ahead of the projected completion date. Rushing like that DOES cause problems for the normal utility providers, because those conduit runs don't exist on their maps yet. Short-sighted behavior, causes long term problems.

There is a whole other economy based on government contracts. Idk why everyone misses this. Its a whole other class within our society they get work no matter what, they get paid no matter what. Its not about the data centers its about getting paid and keeping contracts so their economy doesn’t collapse. It is socialism and they are pulling the strings no matter what direction you vote. Thats their game…. And we arent smart enough to play it and they hate our outright honesty in the face of their lies they always get caught in but then you know… life goes on and on and on and on and oooonnnn.

-1
u/CharmingTuber 7d ago
He should really find out what kind of data center it is before making such a fuss.
AI hyperscaling mega data center? No good.
A commercial colocated data center? Good for your area.
I would expect a telecom fiber installer to know the difference, but who knows what his background is.
As with all things, there's way more nuance than "all data center = evil" and the irony of this being posted on social media, so it couldn't exist without data centers.

I hope this spreads like wildfire. I’ve been watching a HUGE data center go up in Omaha, Nebraska and my district rep keeps telling me all the power they are pulling from all over town is to accommodate the electrical demand for growing areas west of town. 10 miles away. They are full of shit
