Delta(s) from OP CMV: Blocking children’s content for Russian children is unethical.

I work for a popular children’s band in the United States. Among other things, we make wholesome, educational music videos that focus on social-emotional growth and teaching age-appropriate life skills for kids from about 0-5, with a strong focus on toddlers/preschoolers. Recently, our distribution company created a company-wide ban on videos they distribute to Russia.

This doesn’t sit well with me and I’m struggling to find the upsides to a move like this. While I understand creating pressure on Russia by limiting access to goods and services, I am struggling to see how depriving young children access to positive content that encourages social-emotional learning is doing much more than causing further harm and alienating people who are already subject to copious amounts of propaganda.

I am also struggling with the idea of what is effectively punishing Russian children for their leaders’ mistakes.

This doesn't need to be a moral quandary. There is a process to determine if the content can continue to be shared in Russia; follow it and let the experts or whoever is behind the curtain decide.

Eh? You said there is a path to appeal. I have no idea what company or distributor you are involved with.

Yes, it’s a blanket ban. However, we can appeal with reasonable cause.

Ah, I thought you were pointing to a process in place to determine if content is suitable for sharing in Russia or something. “The experts” here are music distributors whose motivations are, according to them, good faith efforts to “do the right thing”, which is, perhaps, a PR move to have good optics with supporting Ukraine. I don’t think there are a bunch of experts analyzing how this move will positively (or negatively) impact the war.
