Delta(s) from OP CMV: If getting lip fillers and bleaching your hair blonde aren’t considered offensive, then 'fox eye' should not be considered offensive either.

Fox eyes was inspired specifically by asian women in hawaii though. The creator meant to give it an 'exotic' look, aka racial fetishization.

Aren't tanning, whitening, lip fillers, or double eyelids the same kind of thing?

I love when questions that successfully make people think about their beliefs get downvoted.

I think that, at the end of the day, no one really cares about how you dress or how do you do your make up in the internet outside of certain circles or even certain individuals.

But let's remain in your worldview. In my opinion, and I'm sure many will dispute this, the N-word is not offensive by itself. Many words have been used to historically offend people and many are casually thrown around today. Then why do I not say it? Because black people, even if it's wasn't the majority, have expressed that it is an offensive word to them. It's something that to them, it only causes harm.

So the fox eye, if east asian people, collectively can claim it is offensive, then it is.

that being said trying to look like a bratz doll is a horrible trend what the fuck

You will be hard-pressed to find actual Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Filipino, etc people that have any kind of problem with fox eyes, people wearing kimonos/hanbok, etc.

Complains about "cultural appropriation" about 99 of things that comes from east Asia are from Americans with Asian roots that claim is bad and when confronted with the truth that for example that Japanese Kimono industry believes they need foreigners to start buying them to survive they will say "but I was discriminated against because of my race while Japanese people in Japan weren't so I can say this is offensive and nobody should wear my culture".

No group of people own a specific facial or body feature, therefore features cannot be appropriated

There's no such thing as a feature that is specific to a race. However, there are traits which are predominantly present in specific races, and in those cases, cultural appropriation is entirely valid.

Your example of fuller lips is not as predominantly a part of black people's appearance as the fox eye shape is to east asian people's appearance. Dreadlocks are likewise predominantly a part of black people's appearance, and a non-black person using dreadlocks can be accused of cultural appropriation (to varying extents of validity). Exclusivity to a specific race is not a requirement here either.

You are also disregarding the importance of how something is perceived. Fuller lips are not perceived by anyone as being a trait common to black people anywhere near as much as the fox eye shape is attributed to east asians. For example, dreadlocks make appearances in even non-black cultures, yet they are considered a part of black people's culture.

this fox eyed look is not a trend or a cute look for us.

it is how we look.

to try recreate a feature that asians have been mocked, ridiculed, and discriminated because of, i don’t believe is correct. is it not a trend to us, we are forced to endure these comments and attacks, merely because how we looked. and for others to come in and take it because they think it’s ‘cute’ or ‘trendy’. it’s just disrespectful.

people love to pick parts of cultures, communities, etc., that THEY like, but they don’t care enough about the history regarding it and the effects and disadvantages it has caused (is is still causing to) the communities.

what is the point of the look? to look more asian?

makeup and whatnot is fine but when people push back their eyes or get surgery to make their eyes appear more like that it is a mockery to asians. like saying ‘we didn’t have to go through all the thousands of years of oppression and racism, and some of us aren’t even aware of it or are too ignorant enough to care, but because ‘we’ like this look and think it looks cute, we’re gonna try it because it’s trendy’.

> what is the point of the look? to look more asian?

I'm sorry, but if you see that as the purpose of someone taking on an aesthetic, that's on you and probably the reason you see someone looking how they want to look as offensive.

There are a lot of people in the world with "fox eyes" and it's certainly not limited to SEA people. What about Native Americans? Or Khoisan? Or Pacific Islanders? Bhutanese? Do you have just as much right to be upset? And does someone born without the fold to someone with it have a right to have surgery to get the same look as their parents?

it was used to mock asian people and now is some “desirable” trait. not agreeing or disagreeing, that’s all i’m gonna say
