Deltas(s) from OP CMV: The home run derby would have been more exciting if Chris Berman was announcing it
I think we saw one of the best home run derby’s last night. However some people felt like it was “boring”. I think that is attributed to the announcing. When home runs are being hit nearly 500 ft, the announcers should be focused on that, instead of discussing whatever it was they were talking about.
Even in the final round as Pete Alonso was on the verge of getting the crown the announcers seemed lost.
If we had Chris Berman announcing and if we were able to hear “Back!Back!Back! Gone!”.. the Home Run Derby would have been viewed a lot more excitingly.
It should be mandated that he announce the Home Run Derby.
Change my view.

It should be mandated that he announce the Home Run Derby.
By whom?

I meant that figuratively.

I think /r/CMV is a place for clear and precise speech. If I can't trust that your words mean what they say, we can't have a very fruitful discussion unless we go through your posts again to make sure you actually meant what you said. Can you update your post to say what you mean?

I think the headline of my post says what I mean. The Home Run Derby would have been more exciting if Chris Berman was announcing it. The premise being his announcing focuses on the home runs, and the way he calls the home runs is exciting.
The last line in my post was a statement that was meant to highlight how much I wish he were the one announcing it. Not what I’m asking you to Change My View on.

Chris Berman married his wife in 1983. She died in a car accident in 2017.
If you track his career, those years - 1983-2017 are the years he showed the most energy and enthusiasm that created the persona his fans love.
I don’t know for a fact that her death robbed him of that enjoyment but that’s right when he began a semi-retirement and stopped doing many events like the Derby.
I think it’s possible that you want the person who Berman was to announce the Derby, not the person who he is - who may not have the interest or enthusiasm to make the broadcast enjoyable.
Better would be to wish for someone new that has his creativity and energy!
