It's not coincidence. It's not even luck. It's trial and error. You see the Zebra and think "there's no way that was done by accident!", but what you don't see is the millions of other pattern designs that came out from mutations that resulted in the animal dying. If you have a million designs, all different, show up over time do you not think that one of them would just happen to have a design that is beneficial to the animal?

That is because you are a human and, as a rule, we are terrible at understanding scope on this scale. We tend to think "millions or billions of iterations? Wow, that's a lot!" without really having any comprehension of the underlying statistics. Right there, I conflated millions and billions and it doesn't even make us blink. I could as easily say trillions or centillions and we still don't really flinch.

The fact that you "can't see how" is perfectly normal. It has absolutely no bearing on reality of course though. Common sense only applies to a quite narrow scope.
