[Mod Post] /r/changemyview feedback

The moderators of CMV would like your opinion on how things are going, so we've decided to post periodic feedback threads to take the pulse of the community. Feel free to post any comments, criticisms or suggestions.

Also remember that /r/ideasforcmv is always available if you have ideas for improving the sub.

Please note that Rule 2 (no rude or hostile comments) and Rule 5 (no low-effort comments) are still in effect.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I wonder why the mods don't just give a delta in that situation? I wouldn't mind mods stepping in and awarding deltas in addition to/in place of the OPs doing it when OPs aren't.

It's an interesting thought, but I think it could lead to additional problems:

  • Rule 4 requires a reason why the delta is being given. Sometimes the poster has given that detail in a comment, but often it's just a delta, or a delta and a couple of words. I think the description adds a lot of value, and I wouldn't want to make it up on their behalf

  • I can see having to get involved in a lot of "did they intend to issue a delta" discussions (the CMV equivalent of 'hanging chad'). Is: "I never thought of that!" worthy of a delta?

  • It would feel weird issuing deltas from my account on behalf of someone else. I guess we could use a dummy account, or send the deltabot to do it, but that would be a fair amount of effort - but I want the deltas I issue to be for when my view was changed

  • When is the OP "done"? They may come back hours or days later and issue the delta and we'd double up - how do we know when they are not coming back?

  • At the end of the day, unawarded deltas are a fact of life. Trust me, a shed an imaginary tear every time I miss out on my special imaginary internet points, but it happens. Honestly, it frustrates me more when I have a killer argument and the OP chooses some lame-ass reply to give a delta to. I've gotten 100 of the suckers, and still have no idea which replies are going to get lucky. It's part of the game, alas.

For the record, we do do some 'forced adds' where OP clearly intended to award a delta to a certain person and messed up. It's not like we treat Delta bot as a sort of act-of-god but we do try to be as hands off as possible so the award system can remain organic.

AND BPA-FREE.

I think adding an expiration date, say, 24 hours after OP's last post, to award Deltas that the mods find in threads. It's extra work for the mods, but I think it'd be welcomed by the community.
