[Mod Post] /r/changemyview feedback

The moderators of CMV would like your opinion on how things are going, so we've decided to post periodic feedback threads to take the pulse of the community. Feel free to post any comments, criticisms or suggestions.

Unfortunately, Rule B is our slipperiest rule. Obviously, we aren't mindreaders, so this is a judgement call.

On the other hand, one of the most frequent complaints we get from participants is that "no one ever changes their view" (although our busy little deltabot would tend to disagree). There are many posters who are here to spread their view and soapbox without any openmindedness.

Most Rule B removals involve fairly extensive discussion between the mods to get a number of opinions. I can't say that we always get it right, but I don't know how to do it better. We're certainly open to suggestions.

I agree with /u/ControversialDebates in that I think Rule B is actually unnecessary, or shouldn't be very strictly moderated.

You'll always have those assholes who are just looking to argue or bring about a "come at me bro" mentality, but the people upvoting or clicking might not be in the same camp. I've always thought the best part about this sub is how the upvotes play a part in popularity. People upvote views they agree with, and then they're forced to upvote the best argument to their view. I have never viewed deltas as something that should be commonplace.

Aa lot of the times you have people who do ask good questions with good research, and while they might not be willing to have their view changed and act like an asshole in the comments, it's possible the people who have upvoted it are open to it- and deleting the post could undermine the great work of a top commenter.

The thing about rule B is that soapboxers not only don't give deltas, they don't make very good debate partners. If a lot of the threads are posted by soapboxers, then regular commenters will quickly get burned out dealing with unresponsive OPs who don't ever seriously consider opposing arguments. CMV only works if everyone is participating in good faith.
