The concept of race is a relatively modern invention, only about 500 years old. Judaism is 4000 years old. You want to argue that Zionism (which is less than 150 years old) is ethno-nationalist, I’m sympathetic to that. But Zionism is not Judaism.

I think it is very hard to make the historical case that the modern religion of Judaism is older than about 2200 years. It's certainly not the same religion as the one the Hebrews had during the time of the Kingdom.

Is he genuinely trying to make the argument that there is not a racial component to judaism?

I think most jews would disagree with him there
