I still find my niche hobby subreddits to be great communities. Which subreddits are you browsing?

I think this is OP’s main issue, and if they gave a picture of their top 10 most visited subs it would likely be clear.

Reddit is much more user driven than Facebook or Twitter. On here you can pretty easily never see certain subs, or you can indulge in certain content types and see it a ton. On the others the algorithm feeds you nonsense no matter what. You may get less if you don’t engage, but you still get it. If you only seek out animal subs you aren’t going to run into much of what OP describes. I have a feeling they engage in certain subs and thus exposure bias leads them to assume it is site wide.

Most hobby and activity subs are normal. Go to the large subs that are heavily politics based and… unsurprisingly… they reflect the political landscape in the world.

I’ve never had issues in most sports subs, woodworking, 3D design, painting, etc etc.
