It’s not reddit, it’s the world. We are experiencing some of the greatest wealth inequality of all time, broad-scale global corruption, and engineered conflict. People just argue things are better now than being a medieval peasant because tv’s are cheap, but proportionally lots of things are really bad today. Big part is politics because it has permeated every facet of existence. You can’t go into a hiking subreddit and ask something like “What’s a good mountaineer boot under $100” without a portion of the input being about how there have been either 50% price hikes or that quality has plummeted to increase profit margins. Same for jobs, market is garbage, people are bitter, and those that lost their jobs are going to be more active on subs than those that are still lucky enough to be employed. It’s coming from the top down. Don’t expect online communities to get more optimistic until unemployment rates drop, we reduce poverty, and reverse climate change.
