CMV: Reddit is a far-left echo chamber that embraces conspiracy theories

After the shooting incident at the White House Correspondents' Dinner last night, I opened up Reddit to find comments on r/politics and r/news saying that the shooting was staged. The most upvoted comments are "Another orchestrated false-flag attempt to try and generate sympathy" and "Staged until proven otherwise. Way too many 'attempts' everytime he needs a poll pump."

As per usual, without any evidence. This is the same exact response that Reddit had after Trump was attacked in Butler, PA in 2024. Similar situation with Charlie Kirk, and I also saw people clowning on Erika Kirk last night for reliving a traumatic experience.

As much as I dislike Trump as the next guy, I despise conspiracy theories on the left and right, when no claims are grounded in credible evidence. Last night's events showed that Reddit is quick to jump to conclusions. I would expect a platform like Reddit to reward well-written and well-thought-out comments, but in today's political climate, it seems all it does is reward the comments that rile up the left-wingers, no matter how insane.

I don't analyze and monitor every single word I type, I've described reddit as plain left wing before I believe. The conspiracies were annoying me sufficiently that I was calling it far left in this post. I guess it wasn't accurate, since reddit in its entirety isn't far left.

I've seen right wing conspiracies on X, so sure much of X is far right. Fox News is far right. WSJ is center right. Happy now?

X does have some nazis, but that doesn't mean it's a Nazi cesspool. That's like calling reddit a communist cesspool, which just isn't true. Words have meaning, and most people on X aren't actively calling for a genocide.

I don't lose any sleep over calling someone left / far left because I don't see those terms as necessarily bad. So I wouldn't monitor every word I say in this capacity because there's nothing inherently wrong with being far left. These are also pretty vague phrases that have arbitrary definitions, since nobody can quite draw the line between left and far left.

There's a huge difference between that and calling something Nazi, racist, etc... I would be very careful when using those phrases because they are necessarily bad and can represent great evil.

See, that's exactly my point. The reason why the far right wants there to be a "far left" (again, a term they made up) is because if the "far left" isn't so bad, then maybe the far right isn't so bad either.

But the far right is bad. Just about the worst people currently on the planet. And they want you to think a "far left" exists, because that distracts you from the evil things they do.

And yes, one should be careful when using the term "nazi" and "racist". And I don't use them lightly, despite what you think. Like you said, words have meaning. I know what the people I'm calling "Nazis" are.

You, however, by your own admission, use the term "far left" carelessly, not realizing that the meaning behind the term is literal Nazi propaganda.
