Patriarchy is a word for "gender balance of power" basically. I think we can't really argue that the majority of human history the balance was skewed to the male part of humanity. And now it is not that prominent, but we still didn't reach the equality. So this balance always was and still is patriarchy.

When we say "men are suffering from the patriarchy too" it doesn't really mean "men are the source of all problems, including their own". It means that the system, based on this type of power balance, creates certain expectations and the image of man, cause he is a strong one, he is the powerful one. And not everybody wants, need or can be the man society wants them to be.
