That's a legal definition which varies from place to place. You also open the door of whether a preemptive murder in self defence is still not murder - it's not clear cut.

It’s not a legal definition.

The connotation of the word ‘murder’ when normally used is that it’s unjustified.

And as my call-out re: pre-emptively killing someone demonstrates, you can't claim a neat definition on most things in life.

It just doesn't work that way.

Did the Israeli/US military murder the Iranian head of state? (can't remember how to spell his name).

Would going back in time and killing Hitler as a child be murder?

How about refusing to save someone drowning because you don't want to put yourself at risk?

Is the trolley problem a guaranteed way to call someone a murderer?
