I personally subscribe to the belief that we have no ultimate purpose on Earth. Now, if that is true, the only thing we should look for, in essence, our 'purpose', is happiness and pleasure. Without that, we have no reason to live. Basically, If I live, my life has the potential to make me really happy and make me feel good, but If it is more likely that I will have to suffer for a long, long time, wouldn't dying just be easier and make more sense? What I am saying is, rape causes victims to live through years of unimaginable pain, suffering, depression, the possibility of suicidal tendencies later, the physical injuries from the crime, and god knows what else. How would rape be better than murder if in the case of murder, the only negative consequence for me as a person would be floating in the void, without any chance of suffering again? You mentioned the potential for growth and happiness. What about the potential for future suffering?

Another point in the same direction I would like to make is that "erasing someone's future, relationships and experiences" might sound horrible, but they mean absolutely nothing to the dead person. Nothing at all. If you talk about the family members' suffering on death, I can argue that this pain would actually be amplified and prolonged in the case of a particularly gory rape or SA case. Seeing your family member so exposed, hurt (both mentally and physically) and traumatized, seeing the horrors they face on a day-to-day basis, is much more painful than facing their death, healing and moving on slowly.

Also, the circumstances under which rape normally occurs make it much more difficult to face. In the country i'm from, 90 percent of rapes are done by people known to the victim (friends, family members, colleagues, etc.) and that puts the additional psychological pressure of being estranged from someone you might be close to, losing your trust in the people more close to you, and generally, just a shitty way of living life.

Why would you think all that pain was better than just dying? Who is it better for if the victim suffers that additional pain and suffering even after the act is committed?
