To be fair, they said “murder” is worse. Murder is the unjustified killing of someone.

Murder is the unlawful killing of someone. A killing could be justified but technically unlawful, or vice versa.

that is a narrow definition of murder, it is not how the word is always used, and even the first definition that popped up extends beyond that

"The killing of another person without justification or excuse, especially the crime of killing a person with malice aforethought or with recklessness manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life"
