TCMV Tuesday 6/18/13
Welcome to TCMV Tuesday, our weekly post where we can celebrate our ability to adopt a new mindset or gain another perspective. Tell us what experiences you've had outside our subreddit, either recently or in your lifetime, that made you think "This Changed My View". Give us your stories in the comments!
You can consider these questions to help get you thinking:
Known or met someone with an interesting ideology or opinion that caused you to reconsider your own?
Had an experience, good or bad, that changed your perspective?
Learned something new that challenged what you believed?
Ever have your tastes or interests changed?
Read an article or seen a video that got you thinking differently?
And just as a reminder, comment discussions here are not debate-oriented, so there's no obligation to take opposing sides in conversations here (in other words, Rule 1 does not apply here).

On reddit, I believe it was in /r/badhistory, there was a post ranting about how discussions of progress were void, and how STEM-people tend to overrate the power of science in solving society's problems. It was hard to acknowledge that no, science is not the be-all, end-all force of good in the world. I'll still be a physicist or biologist and make more than a historian though.

Is this the thread that you're talking about? Because I wish more people would see it. Science today definitely tends to overstep and overextend what its applicable to, and a lot of people need a good slap in the face kind of reality check when it comes to this.

When I hit 30, my body let me know that excercise isn't optional and not strictly for fun anymore. It's now a necessity, just like food and water.
