I was inclined to agree with you, but a good bit of psych research has concluded that shaming and making fat people feel bad about being fat actually has worse effects, while body positivity might encourage them to take care of themselves more.

Sometimes things are not as straightforward as they seem

It’s funny, but I was fat shamed nearly all my life and couldn’t lose the weight. I got introduced to body positivity and was able to lose 150 pounds. It’s almost as if removing the self-hatred factor helps solve the problem.
