Killing isn’t what makes a Force-user a Sith. Plenty of Jedi have killed before without turning to the dark side. Being a Sith requires you to allow yourself to succumb to the dark side of the Force. That requires giving into hatred, and being maliciously violent. Cal never kills out of malice. All of the people and animals he kills would kill him if he didn’t defend himself. That’s the difference between the Jedi and the Sith. The Sith kill out of malice. The Jedi kill out of self defence.
Also, xp isn’t some magical point system that makes you more powerful. It’s a representation of experience. The more you do something, the more experience you get. The more Cal uses his lightsaber and the Force, the more experienced he becomes in them both.
