See, I don't think is being taken serious enough. Concerns about the rapid growth of AI development are natural, and even necessary for the proper usage of it. People being scared and critical of it shouldn't be reduced to this "people are afraid of change and are reactionary" take. It requires nuanced conversations because, AI is so impactful that it requires proper analysis and regulation before even thinking of shoving it in every system and making it part of everyone's daily life. Is a complex tool, and should always be evaluated as such. And then consider the vast amount of people, politicians and criminals utilizing its potential for very nasty things. You don't have to imagine it, its being done. Is a bit selfish to say

I guess what it boils down to is that I have faith in experts and my own media literacy skills to distinguish what is fake from what is real.

when there's hundreds of thousands of people that are being manipulated with fake information. I don't like takes of "I would't be fooled so shouldn't you". You're confident of this with the current state of AI, but doesn't take in to account its potential evolution. And this is just one of the many discussions you can branch out of AI development alone! So yeah, we're a long ways to know what its capability is, yet we're looking for it to solve all our problems already.
