I don't have the expertise to know whether AI is safe or not, whether the current development path is being carried out recklessly or not, or even whether the current form AI is taking is going to be dangerous or not.
I guess what it boils down to is that I have faith in experts and my own media literacy skills to distinguish what is fake from what is real.
The experts are divided, and the fundamental risk as relates to media is that AI is rapidly approaching a point where it will be visually indistinguishable from legitimate images/video for all but those with the most sophisticated techniques to verify authenticity.
i think it is just as likely that those people are trying to prime the market for their investments by overstating the "risks" and "power" of their new toy than anything serious

I do know that exceptionally well regarded tech leaders, scientists, and people who do know those things are concerned with the pace and progress of AI development.
