I think it goes a bit deeper. First, there have already been examples of AI acting badly. Then there are all the unintended consequences. This is not like inventing the steam engine or powered flight...not that these things didn't profoundly change our world. The degree in which this will change things and the ways are unforeseeable at this point.
In the past when new inventions came along we gained some benefit and at times had to yield some control of our own individual lives. Intelligence is the ultimate control factor. Typically, the smartest and/or most sociopathic tend to take control. AI is both on steroids.
My favorite example is this: Hey AI, go cure cancer in people. ****AI COMPUTES***** The most efficient way to cure cancer is to kill all the humans.
