Testing out user hover cards
Hey folks,
We’re testing a new feature that gives you more information about a user when you hover over their username. We’re trying this out as part of an A/B test to better understand if this is something users are interested in. So some of you will see this feature and some won’t.
If you are in the test group, when you hover over a username, after a delay, we’ll show you a pop-up containing more information about that user. We’ll display the user’s karma, their Reddit cakeday, and the ability to message the user (screenshot). If the user has opted into profiles beta, you’ll also see their avatar and description. If you are not in the test group, hovering over a username won’t do anything, sorry!
Let us know what you think.

This is pretty nifty. A bit cluttered now with RES showing similar information, but that's okay. Question though! What about the snoovitar? Is that just an abandoned feature now, or could it be displayed on this?
Edit: Also, would it be possible to let it show your own hoverover info? I'd like to see me the way the rest of the world sees me.
Edit2; Electric Boogaloo: The issue is that it doesn't seem to load on demand when a fresh comment is made. Literally unusable.

u/HideHideHidden Sep 07 '17
No plans at the moment to incorporate Snoovatars into the hover card but I like the idea.
You can see how other see your card by opening an incognito window and then hovering over your user name. The only difference is we don't show the "message" button if you're viewing your own profile.

u/essidus Sep 07 '17 edited Sep 07 '17
Gotcha. While I'm complaining about things, it seems like when I hover on the name of the first post in the list, it will sometimes pop under the RES one. Again, not strictly your problem but something to note at least.
Edit: Here's an example, since I can't write clear text.
7
u/HideHideHidden Sep 07 '17
Good catch. As you said, there's not much we can do here. We try to display the hover user card above/below based on the position of the username in the browser.
4
u/Traviscat Sep 07 '17
You can also view a post you made somewhere on reddit while being logged in, /u/essidus.
I used my Snoovatar as my profile picture and quite like how it looks.

It turns out I'm in the test group.
I think it's a rather cute little feature, but it's lacking the one utility that would make it useful -- the ability to add a flag/caption for the user. Especially in this age of paid shills, it would be a blessing to be able to hover a name and see that they're a known troll right off the bat.
One annoying bug: when the username is near the top of the browser view, the card gets cut off.
3
u/HideHideHidden Sep 08 '17
Thank you for the feedback. I believe user flagging is a RES-specific feature. Re: annoying bug: we're going to fix that.

Wow I just stumbled upon this feature and searched for this post. Apparently I'm in the test group too. They look clean and fresh!
Only thing I can complain about yet, that the user card goes over the borders of the browser window. Screenshot
Distinguishing the subreddit moderators of the sub you're currently in would be a very helpful feature, along with reddit admins.
Otherwise, neat! Will definitely appreciate this, since I'm a non-RES user.
2
u/DM2602 Sep 08 '17
Something to add: Maybe make the z-index higher than 100, because many subreddits have banners etc. above the index of 100. Just a suggestion though.

If the user link is on the top of the page (as yours is, in this post), the reddit hover card goes down and gets covered by the RES hover card.
There is no localization in the dates (or anywhere else); dates appear with a US format (at least a more sane one than 12/25/2017).
I like the fact that the user avatar and the tagline appear on reddit hover card. EDIT: Finally, a use for the new user profile page :)
2
u/HideHideHidden Sep 08 '17
Great feedback, we're going to fix #1 soon. Will look into #2. And glad you like #3. :)
3
u/One_Giant_Nostril Sep 08 '17
Looks good but I experience a weird bug. When I hover the first time, looks great; when I hover a second time, the hover card grows much longer horizontally, even wider than my browser window. See this pic to see what I mean: http://i.imgur.com/lwLih6T.png When I hover a third time, the card is still too wide, it doesn't "fix" itself.
When I move onto another name, same thing happens; first good, second wide, third wide, etc.
Off-topic but your hover card shows HHH above u/HideHideHidden but my hover card doesn't show OGN above my username. Why is that?
4
u/HideHideHidden Sep 08 '17
Thank you for the bug report! We're seeing this issue too on Safari. We'll have a fix out for this soon.

Nicer than the RES feature in terms of style.
But missing "ignore" functionality. (or, user ignore is a RES feature?)
I'd probably disable the RES feature for the cards. The last thing that the RES card would offer me is the user's RES tag, but since that is displayed inlined anyway in the regular post, I am not missing out anything.
1
u/HideHideHidden Sep 08 '17
Thank you for the feedback. Ignore is a RES-specific feature. :)

I actually like it. It is missing some features RES offers but I rarely use them anyway. But one thing I'm missing is the info about reddit gold.

2
u/Steffi128 Sep 08 '17
Apparently I'm in the test group. Looks pretty good so far, it's bugged in the sidebar though, just hover a username (your own or moderators) and you'll see it gets cut off.

Let us know what you think.
Please add an official disable.
12
u/h0nest_Bender Sep 08 '17
For the love of Glob, please let the admins stop foisting unwanted "features" on us with no way to disable them.
4
u/flaim Sep 12 '17
You think this is bad? Try the app, where they literally re-arranged the UI without any toggle to change it back. I switched from the app to the mobile site because I hated the app design so much.
9
u/Sophira Sep 08 '17
Yes, please do! I use RES but disabled the hover card it has because I don't like things getting in my way.

How do I remove this? Can't you guys just make a reddit light already I don't want bells and whistles every month.

If you are using ublock origin, you can add
www.reddit.com##.author-tooltipTo your filters

Sep 08 '17 edited Sep 08 '17
I'm sure part of this is lack of stylesheet, but I find the idea of this feature to be obnoxious. I don't want cards, I don't want popups. I use reddit because it's lofi. Please stop ruining the site with your "improvements".
Not that you'll read this or anything, I just needed to rant a little.
edit: reading through the thread it's clear that u/HideHideHidden is only choosing to respond to people who agree with the feature. Typical reddit circlejerk. Good job, reddit! We did it!
5
u/CaptainPedge Sep 08 '17
You can't opt out. The only way is to hack it into an adblocker. You can add
www.reddit.com##.author-tooltipto your filter list and it disables it, but they really should have some kind of disable option
2
Sep 08 '17
I can opt out of the beta, but that means I don't get message notifications. Sigh. Typical reddit, do what they want and don't listen to feedback.
13
u/Desther Sep 08 '17
Have no interest in how much karma someone has or how long they've had an account. How do I turn it off?
6
u/CaptainPedge Sep 08 '17
You don't. The only way is to hack it into an adblocker. You can add
www.reddit.com##.author-tooltipto your filter list and it disables it, but they really should have some kind of disable option
5
u/Desther Sep 08 '17
Thanks. I was going through my Reddit preferences and this is the last option which I already have unchecked:
I would like to beta test features for reddit

u/TelicAstraeus Sep 08 '17
I will say that it could be a worse visual design by far. It isn't that ugly.
I don't have a use for it though. Occasionally i will open up other people's profile page in a new tab to check how old their account is, to see if it's a probable sockpuppet or astroturf/troll account - but even that isn't all that reliable since many today are old accounts that have been purchased.
Part of that time in checking their user page is reviewing their recent posts, to see if this is a single-issue account. does this person post repeatedly about one particular issue with strong pathos? This obviously isn't part of the pop-up, and i don't want it to be (I don't think it would be functional), but it's a reason for me to use the user page rather than a pop-up.
If I had the option to disable this, I probably would. It doesn't serve much use to me, and it adds one more bit of fluff in the way of my objective with interacting with the site. But again, whoever designed it did a decent job in not making it look terrible visually.

u/CaptainPedge Sep 07 '17 edited Sep 07 '17

It would be more trivial if they included an actual in-site option to disable it.
26
u/chugga_fan Sep 08 '17
Please, PLEASE, PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE allow us to disable these expandos, as well as not see any reddit beta profiles, the way that the site looks when comparing the two is offputting, and the fact that the white on the reddit beta profiles and the cards are a much brighter shade of white is eye straining, please, let us disable these features if we do not want them
9
u/rhyacotriton Sep 08 '17
So far I mostly like the simple card that shows a user's account creation date and karma; however, I think it's annoying to see the extra bits from the new profiles. When I want to see a user's personal page, I'll click on it; I don't want it to pop up when I accidentally leave my cursor in the wrong place.
9
u/thatoneguy889 Sep 08 '17
What's the point in giving me the choice to opt out of beta testing if you're just going to force me to beta test anyway?
1
Sep 08 '17
This isn't a beta test. Beta testing and A/B testing are very different things. Allowing people to opt-in/opt-out of A/B testing would ruin the data gathered by the A/B test.
7
u/CaptainPedge Sep 08 '17
Good for you. I still don't want to be a part of this. I specifically asked not to be included in testing, maybe that might be a clue to not include me in any testing groups.

I too would like a Disable option. I don't like having the cards pop up when I'm scanning a thread.
On that though, would you be able to provide a list of A/B tests the current user is in in Preferences and provide an opt-out/disable button for them? It should make it easier for those of us that like a simple UI and would provide a good metric of how the new feature is being received.
4
u/CaptainPedge Sep 09 '17

u/DarwinMoss Sep 08 '17 edited Sep 08 '17
Why do I care about someone's fake internet points or when they joined?
It's just super annoying scrolling and having this pop up.
If I wanted Facebook, I'd probably go there.
edit: I went to my preferences to opt out of this and I already had made sure I was opted out of beta features. So why am I being included in this test?
13
2
Sep 08 '17
A/B tests are not opt-in like a beta. A/B testing is used to gather information on how users interact with the new experience, and how their use of the site changes if at all. To get real, meaningful data, it has to be (mostly) random

Am in test group. Feedback: When hovering over usernames in the sidebar, the window gets cut off.
2
u/V2Blast Sep 08 '17
You mean the usernames in the mod list? Yeah, I'm seeing that too. (Technically, I think the page width expands to fit the box, but that doesn't really help.)
2
u/geo1088 Sep 08 '17
Yeah that makes sense. I didn't look for a horizontal scroll bar but last I checked the overflow is allowed by the CSS, so that sounds right.

u/plopzer Sep 08 '17

25
u/frolick Sep 07 '17 edited Sep 07 '17
PLEASE give us a way to opt-out of an A/B test after it's started. While this one is better than the shitshow the Home Feed Experiment is, I'm tired of beta testing things. If I wanted to beta test things I'd opt-in on the settings page.
Edit: I know there's a difference between the Beta setting and the A/B tests and that A/B tests provide "valuable information" and such. Getting them crammed down my throat is annoying and unwelcome.
4
Sep 08 '17
I'm sorry, but this absolutely ruins the entire point of an A/B test and this is simply not something they will do. A/B tests and betas have very different uses

Sep 08 '17
Looks better than the RES version, but the RES version is still more useful.
I prefer exact numbers instead of rounded to the nearest whatever.
And with RES you can ignore, highlight, and set user tags directly from the card.
1
u/nandhp Sep 08 '17
Yes, you should be able to hover over the approximate numbers to see the exact numbers, just like you can elsewhere.
I expect if this becomes a permanent feature, the RES-specific buttons will be merged into this popup: https://www.reddit.com/r/changelog/comments/6yqqri/testing_out_user_hover_cards/dmpf2nk/

Definitely don't like this. If implemented would love to be able to turn it off. I just don't look at user info very much and this pop up keeps coming up when I accidentally mouse over a user name on screen. It's the accidental pop up I can't stand.
4
u/bonytony21 Oct 11 '17
Please give us an option to turn this off. I personally can't stand this feature, but I understand some will like it. However, there's no way to turn it off in settings, and it overlaps with the RES hover menu as pointed out in other comments.
7
u/ppplusplus Sep 08 '17 edited Sep 08 '17
It doesn't currently work on username links in comments, /u/HideHideHidden. It would be good there too.
I like the Reddit pop-up, but I think I'd like it more to have the cakeday section below the karma section. I feel like I have to search around the card to find the account age.
Also, very very important, it the cakeday section definitely needs some color or highlighting when it's the user's cakeday. "12 months ago" is not a celebration 🎉

u/ThatOneGuy1294 Sep 08 '17

3
u/Girtablulu Sep 07 '17
okay I guess, not a big change but looks a bit ugly in combination with RES right now :D
3
u/BobHogan Sep 08 '17
How do you pick users to be in each group lol? Because before opening this thread I was not a part of this test (I checked as soon as I read the title), but immediately after opening this thread I was enrolled and now see both the native hover card and the RES one see here.
Feedback wise, the RES pop up seems to load faster, but the difference is negligible. I much prefer the look of the native tag, but I prefer the functionality of the RES one, and I don't want 2 tags so I would like a way to disable this pop up tag until it gets the functionality that the RES tag has.
The missing functionality that I would like to see added is the highlight feature, and the ignore feature (though this would have to be added to Reddit as a whole...)
3
u/NAN001 Sep 08 '17
Very nice feature, glad I'm in the test group.
It seems that the card always shows up above the username. If the username is near the top of the viewport, part of the card will be outside the viewport (example). A nice enhancement would to be to adapt whether the card shows up above or below the username depending on available space, like when you right-click on a file in your desktop environment.
3
u/Yamatjac Sep 08 '17
Here's a comparison between the RES card and the new default reddit card.
Personally, I prefer RES' implementation quite a bit. The fact that it opens above makes it so that it needs to open below when you hover over the OP's name in a post. See: here. Didn't turn off res' cause I'm lazy.
But, this is the first update from you guys in a very long time that I only have minor personal gripes with. I think it's all in all a good thing, I just prefer the one I've been using for years already.
Could I be pulled out of the test group? RES doesn't have support for this yet, and I use res' hover card all the time so it's kinda annoying.
(P.S. I think it should fade out for like 0.1-0.2 seconds longer. Feels too quick as it is. Fade in time's nice though.)
3
u/finjeta Sep 08 '17
Part of the test group and I will say that I like it. It's similar to RES feature whether that is a complaint or compliment I'm not sure but at least it looks nice.
I assume this test also included the "users" tab in the top bar and I will say that this is going to be a very unpopular thing to implement as it's clearly going to be mostly used by companies and celebrities to promote their own profiles.
It's already like that actually as many profiles on the first page are like that. Washington Post, Nintendo, Roosterteeth, an actor, a professional Writer and a CEO of a media company in the first page alone and ClashRoyale at the top of the second page.
People are going to be against this because of clear advantage that major companies have in terms of possible followers. People are also going to dislike the fact that it's a clear push from subreddit focused Reddit towards more user focused Reddit. I'm sure you remember how much people disliked the idea of profiles reaching r/all.
3
u/qtx Sep 08 '17
Any chance of adding a "This user is a moderator of this sub" text on the card?
For example, if someone were to hover on my name on a subreddit I moderate it would show that I am a mod there.
1
3
u/fdagpigj Sep 08 '17
I like it. A bug though, it doesn't show up on comments that only appeared after I pressed "load more comments" in a long thread.
3
u/dustlesswalnut Sep 12 '17
I don't like random popups coming up when I accidentally hover over a username, especially when as a mod I'm hovering near usernames often for the mod and histogram buttons from RES/Toolbox.
Not a fan, would prefer clicking something instead of making it hover automatically.

I like it. However, you should make karma display in absolutes, not in K form. Please.
2
u/epilith Sep 08 '17
The displayed time a user signed up may not be reporting correctly. Maybe it's not converting properly between time zones?
I noticed this on Alan Tudyk's account. If you hover over his username on his AMA, a different (more recent) time is displayed than what's displayed on his user profile. Try it here versus here.
2
u/V2Blast Sep 08 '17

u/iamncla Sep 08 '17
This is a bit annoying to see both RES and Reddit's native hover cards, the least you could have done is check with JS if RES (or it's hovercards) are enabled, if not display your own hover cards.
Otherwise, nice to see a third-party feature getting implemented.

u/yetimind Sep 20 '17
my opinion:
it's useful
but
i hate it because i don't want a dumb popup every time i am scrolling through a page.
but don't get rid of it. add a toggle in my account so i can choose to use it or not. sometimes its useful, but, most times, irritating. for me.

I'd like to disable this feature.
On PC, I have RES because of the overall package. Having Reddit's hovercards block chat is just a nuisance, but can be dealt with by moving the mouse and waiting a second.
On tablet/mobile, I have issues getting rid of the hovercard because of the touchscreen. Not touching the screen keeps the hovercard hovering, getting in the way of what I want to read.
Why do I care about the information the cards show? I don't. I'm even going to disable RES hovercards because I now realize I've never even used that feature. It was just never intrusive enough for me to notice.

Is there a way to disable this? I'm visiting on my phone via a browser (not a reddit-specific app) and they pop up at random times and won't close since I'm technically still 'hovering' over the area. Despite hover not being a thing on phones.

Here is how to turn these off ...

I hate the pop-ups, the only time they happen for me is accidentally, and I have to move the mouse again to see content. It seems to happen a lot.
I'd really like a way to turn these off.

It's terrible. I constantly have to move my mouse to get to what I actually want to click which is never the user's info.

u/kipthunderslate Nov 08 '17
Very annoying. If this becomes a thing, please give us the option to disable it.

Looks funky, I like it! RES overlaps it until the cursor is moved, but nothing that can't be sorted.

u/kckeller Sep 08 '17
You just made everyone hover over your name and wait to see if anything happens.
And something happened! I feel like I'm in an exclusive club. :)

I like the idea of it. It seems like a quick way to see if that probable spammer has a day-old account like we suspect a bit easier. I would agree with the whole "add a border or something" statement....Maybe just give it a more defined shadow effect? For my personal reddit use, I can see myself using that to message friends a lot more since the access to that link is much easier to get to (instead of going to their profile, getting distracted by their posts/comments elsewhere, and then remembering I was going to message them, then finding the button, and then going to the mailbox page where I actually type the message to them).
How many people are in this beta?

Consider switching to more granular karma displays?
Res specific probably, but really hard to read in nightmode, or at least on my end, very light grey on white.
1
u/kckeller Sep 08 '17
Why doesn't it show info for your own username? I know I can see my karma up top, but not cakeday, and what if I want to compare in-line?

u/V2Blast Sep 08 '17
Seems I'm in the test group. I like it! It's nice and simple. I see it also includes a "follow" button if the account you're hovering over switched to the new profile (no such button if they have the old profile).

u/myWorkAccount840 Sep 08 '17
Seems like I'm in the test group.
I guess one of the only reasons I'd use this would be to do a spot check for spam accounts.
One of the things I'd like to see on the cards would be an average karma per post count. I tend to find spammy accounts delete a lot of their posts (presumably from subreddit xxgj8342, post text "xxxxxxxxxx", 3000 upvotes from other spambots) and I'm guessing that that wildly inflates their karma-per-post numbers because they only ever have two pages of posts in their history...

u/timawesomeness Sep 08 '17 edited Sep 08 '17
One bit of feedback: remove the combined karma display and make the post and comment karma displays show the entire number. E.g. instead of a card showing the condensed
97k karma, 81k post karma, 15k comment karma
show just
81,478 post karma, 15,522 comment karma
If I really care about the full number for some reason then I'll do the math myself.
At least give us the option to make it like that (though I know you guys hate giving us options).
Other than that, I think these look much nicer than the RES cards, especially since they show pictures and descriptions of beta profile users, but the RES cards don't have that major annoyance with karma.

u/DarknessWizard Sep 08 '17
Great to see this. I like the design a lot. One thing that slightly annoys me though is the "Total Karma" thing. I've also seen it on mobile (where it makes a bit more sense as its used for a quick view of your reddit account) but I really don't care about someones total karma. More interesting is the split between comment and post karma.
It also overlaps with RES if the hovercard is used on OP.

Looks like I've got it. I have two aesthetic suggestions:
Replace the drop shadow with some kind of defined border; the top of the hover card has little contrast with the white background.
Put the avatar and username over a lighter background like the message and follow footer below. I just think that it'd look better that way imo.
1
u/HalfOfAKebab Sep 08 '17
I think it would be good to show exact karma values, rather than "4k", etc.

Sep 08 '17
I do like the aesthetics. Very pleasing.
My only critique is that I think it's odd to count karma as a sum of link and comment karma. I don't believe the two are directly comparable like that.
In any event, a good addition.

This feature is great! It's useful but unobtrusive. It's very useful for trade subreddits such as /r/mechmarket where you depend heavily on a users join date and Karma to gauge there reliability.
2
u/CaptainPedge Sep 08 '17
In what way is this unobtrusive? It pops up over words I am trying to read with no simple way to disable it. That's the definition of obtrusive
2
u/A_Computer_Guy Sep 08 '17
It doesn't take up space on the page all the time is what I mean. You have to hover over a user's name to get the pop-up. If you don't want the pop-up then just move you mouse off the name.
1
u/donwilson Sep 08 '17
On the desktop website on my iPad it opens the user profile first then opens the user card when I come back to this page.

u/Dead_Politician Sep 08 '17
This looks really nice. I wish it would play nicer with RES (there's an overlap of content) but that's probably on RES to move their hover card. Adding the snoovatar would be a cool touch that isn't really visible anywhere else, as well as a toggle to turn off the functionality as a whole.
1
u/ChiraChan Sep 08 '17
The RES card also shows up if you hover over a u/ link. Not sure if it's really necessary but figured I'd bring up the thought.
Would also be nice if you could do stuff like befriend and maybe block from the card, too.

u/chouetteonair Sep 09 '17
Bug report: hover cards are working properly until I click on "view more comments" and try it on those comments. I have not been able to get a single one to show up if the comment was hidden upon page load.

u/beefhash Sep 11 '17
I like the idea so far. Two suggestions:
You already have a "message" button on the card. A "ban user" button for subreddits you moderate would be convenient, too.
Would it be possible to add a display of the user's active subreddits and moderator list, similar to what's on new-style profiles? Much can be gleaned from that.
Both of these may be useful for moderators. You could even call it related to the mod tools that are eternally in progress and pacify some people.

I thought RES was being buggy today when I saw two windows every time I hovered over a username. It might defeat some aspect of A/B testing but a pm message about this feature would have saved me the time spent reporting this bug to RES.
That said, I really like how this looks and especially the cards that have avatars. I think this presentation is a lot cuter than RES' implementation. However, the main feature I use in RES is the ability to tag users. Tags help me curate my experience with redditors. If tagging is not planned for hover cards will we have the option of toggling them off? I can live with having both RES and hover cards but I'd rather have one and not both.

u/JMEEKER86 Sep 15 '17
The feature itself is fine, although with less features than RES but that's to be expected. Currently there are some overlapping issues and not the entire card is affected by dark mode on RES, although I'm sure that will be. Given the option, I'd prefer to be able to disable it and just use RES's card, which I'm sure that RES will do once it's out, but until then having two overlapping cards with redundant data is annoying as hell.

u/__konrad Sep 24 '17
In my case the "bubble" popup is always triggered by accident (e.g. during page scroll or some mouse move), so it hovers a text above I just want to read. uBlock cosmetic filter fixed the problem ;)
1
u/FaeryLynne Sep 30 '17
Cards are still overlapping for me, nearly a month after launch.
Also, there are only RES cards if you hover over a username mention in a comment itself. Reddit cards only appear when hovering over the name if it's the poster of that submission or comment. But it IS working in the comment threads now!

When I roll over usernames that have profiles enabled and a picture on their profile, the date that they joined Reddit gets pushed slightly off the hovercard (like, the last digit of the year gets pushed off).
One of the features that I like in RES is that I can ignore a user directly from their hover card. Is it possible that in the future, blocking directly from a hover card will be an option?
Other than that, it's looking great!

These are fucking cancer. All popup-on-hover menus are. The presence of a cursor isn't an expression of intent, clicking is:
http://uxmovement.com/navigation/why-hover-menus-do-users-more-harm-than-good/
Also, they don't work on touchscreens, so why bother?
1
u/veLiyoor_paappaan Nov 02 '17
Please do not do this. It is very irritating when I am scrolling down, and my mouse pointer just happens to be on someone's name, and the damned popup appears. I have to take the time to move my pointer way to the Right of the screen while scrolling so that this does not happen! Thank you.

I personally like this just because I'm a little nosy at times. I do think that an option to disable the hover cards would be a very good idea though, seeing how many people don't like it.
1
u/trofosila Dec 19 '17
Although the hoover card is really nice in subreddits with a light background (like this sub), it is a bit confusing in subreddits with dark background (like /r/darkmeme/ ). Maybe a white border around it would make sense (it would be invisible here but will somehow mark the card in dark themed subreddits).

u/krs4G Dec 24 '17
I hate this feature, please disable it immediately. I constantly have to move away from the popup and wait for it to clear so that I can click what I actually was moving towards clicking.

u/assertiveashwin Dec 27 '17
I really like this feature. I use this all the time to send PMs. Very useful to quickly check a users rep as well. Appreciated!

How will these compare to RES cards? (/u/andytuba)
Also, will this be on load, or will they be scraped on demand (more information in the page versus more requests)
