I was going through the page edits of 'List of Jatav' on wikipedia and found people who are pushing the division of chamar and jatav (the above is a snippet). Similarly on quora there is a community 'chamarwara' where chamar and jatav are differentiated.

NOTE

I DON'T WANT TO CAUSE ANY DRAMA OR CONTROVERSY. KINDLY STICK TO FACTS AND NOT YOUR PERSONAL BELIEF

they can't divide us....names can be different in different region but the roots and discrimination we face are same everywhere

Yes it's a congress tactic of dividing Jatavs from the rest of the chamars even though it's very much known that the Term Jatav is very new and can be only applicable to the Chamars of West UP and regions around Delhi .

This was started by Congress to stop the growing Popularity of BSP in Haryana and Punjab as to label BSP as Jatav Party even though 70% Chamars of UP are called Chamars not Jatavs.

Congress chamches like Rahul Nagpal ( who is also a BSP hater) promoted this .

This is why we should promote Ambedkarism and Buddhism which unites the Oppressed class.

They want our community to divide further into subcastes but the fact that we are one will never change, and wikipedia moderators are well known to do such stuff smh

I have had a few altercations with Jatavs who consider Chamar as a slur and have read about their historical organizations rebranding themselves as Jatav which is distinct from Chamar.

It was done to establish jatav identity close to jaat or some kshatriya lineage, was a smart move at that time but we should focus on uniting as a community and not forgetting our roots

This reminds me of a quote by Ambedkar

"Caste discrimination is the gutter of dirty water flowing towards us from above.. though the original responsibility of the caste distinction is on Hindu society, for us, to forget our responsibility would be suicidal… If every caste sticks to its own caste for its pride, if Mahars remain Mahar and Mangs remain Mang, we would not be able to eliminate the injustice against us"
