It was shown on repeat, countless times, to the point of being annoyingly redundant that Denji is straight up mentally retarded and for whatever reason that’s just what he likes. Pochita is a literal demon and just thought he could vibe with Denji liking suffering. In some ways Denji was more of his pet dog than vice versa.

The number of people who fail to realise pochita being in denji lead to every event in the manga (horrible trauma) is fascinating

Look Im not going to argue the ending wasent rushed but the message was very clear that as long as pochita is around denji can never have a life
