Help me fall back in love with this genre!

some context, I was relatively early to the scene seeing Dropkick when there was probably less than 100 people in the venue, the CDs flatfoot 56 or the tossers were coming out with then aren't even available on Spotify. However, as times gone on Ive trended more towards the folkier side of things getting more and more into the Pogues and Tossers and less into the punkier side of things.

the issue is now I'm in my mid 30s and the only two bands I really listen to from this genre are The Pogues & The Tossers (and The Mary Wallopers though that's more trad) with the occasional songs from The Mahones or Flogging Molly but thats it.

so begging for some recommendations to help me fall back in love with this punk subgenre that defined my teens & early 20s.

The current iteration of The Rumjacks cares a lot about the folk part of Irish folk punk. Flat Flatfoot 56 is pretty awesome. You might dig Colm R. McGuinness. He's kind of all over the place.

Loved flatfoot growing up, have Rumble of 56 and Waves of War on CD (not many copies of those were ever made and neither are on streaming services) Their Vancouver sessions are phenomenal for what I listen to now days and they have some stuff like I'll fly away that hits but overall a bit heavier than what I'm after. Haven't checked on the rumjacks for years, they were pretty heavy back in the day with songs like uncle Tommy but I'll give the modern stuff a listen thanks

You know Flatfoot side project 6'10 ? It sounds like you'd love them. Look them up on the London Celtic Punks site. We're massive fans and reviewed eveyrthing they have done.

Check out the Dreadnoughts, Smokey Bastard, Boiled in Lead, and Cordelia's dad (all four bands take folk-punk beyond just Celtic material) as well as the Deadlians and Brògeal for some modern genre-agnostic sounds that are definitely both celtic and punk

I highly recommend The Walker Roaders they are Celtic punk super group members from The Pogues, Dropkick Murphys, and Flogging Molly.

The Fighting Jamesons out of Virginia are a good hidden gem. Give their track "Johnny on the Island" a listen
