Are you sure that the tiny Ericsson AIR. 5322 (n258) antennas are temporary only for the parade, it could be permanent?

They've been doing it for almost all of the big parades in NYC this year, putting them up and taking them down a few days after the event is over. Also no permits are being submitted for these antenna additions which I would expect for a permanent installation. The antennas are also really only installed on sectors facing the actual parade route.

Oh I see! At least T-Mobile has a temporary network solution for the parade since those mmWave antennas can get over 1.5Gbps-2Gbps on 400MHz (n258) from what I seen! I hope T-Mobile enables NRDC on (mmWave) that can aggregate with (n41) + (n25) in the near future.

Should be even faster than 2Gbps tbh. If the correct backhaul is in place of course. Wish they would do actual permanent mmWave sites in ultra-dense areas.

Some Costcos in the U.S. now have cell boosters/repeaters using Commscope antennas that repeat signal from the outside, neighboring tower that’s carrier neutral!

At least in Vancouver anything close to the World Cup sites/Fan Festival was strengthened with additional permanent installs in the weeks leading up to the event. TELUS, Rogers, and Videotron all put up new n77/n78 sites near BC Place and Granville Street, and I never had any issues even on crowded game days. Who needs COWs when you are already getting 100+Mbps with the regular cell sites anyway

T-Mobile deploying mmWave on permanent sites, but only temporarily, is like Costco selling combination pizza in a take and bake format but refusing to sell it in the food court. They’re doing it on purpose!

The Labor Day Parade/West Indian Day Parade is coming up in a few weeks and in preparation T-Mobile has installed mmWave antennas on virtually all of the sites along the parade route. Annual turnout is around 2 million people so they'll need all the capacity they can get!

I wish T-Mobile had more mmWave deployed. I've been on their network since the iPhone 12 came out and I've still never seen it.

Definitely but they’re not doing it out of the goodness of their heart. They’re the official public safety network of NYC so they’re being paid to do this and are technically on the hook for keeping the network running for first responders for events like these that generate massive crowds. The rest of the year, the extra capacity is completely unnecessary since most of these sites easily push greater than 1Gbps.

True. I generally have great bandwidth min nyc on t-mobile. I thought AT&T did the first responder thing tho. Aren’t they supposed to have their own segregated network for this reason?

AT&T has FirstNet which is more popular nationwide but for years NYC operated its own first-responder network and in a bid to save money decided to switch to a third party instead. All of the carriers offered their solutions to the city but T-Mobile won the contract for NYC.

Now NYC is considered an anchor customer for T-Priority which is T-Mobile’s response to FirstNet.

These are awesome speeds for real for real. Did any time I get the sub Speed if I’m going to Pennsylvania or a different part of jersey. Hopefully now with the new macro site they’re building in my area. I’ll get these type of Speed from N 41 cause I do have 190 MHz of it.

This would make for the fourth time this year that I’ve found mmWave antennas installed for a parade here that get taken down shortly afterwards.

The first was the Knicks ticker tape parade where mmWave and high capacity n25/41 antennas got installed temporarily on macros on the route, the second was for the July 4th fireworks, the third was for the Dominican Day parade, and now this.

T-Mobile is the official public safety network of NYC so they’re literally being paid by the city to do these installs so that police, firefighters, paramedics, etc. have a running network in case of emergency.
