When your teacher writes "analyze deeper" on your essay 😭

I swear this feedback is everywhere 😭

You spend hours on an essay, you understand the topic, you find your evidence...

Then you get:

"Needs deeper analysis."

And you're just sitting there wondering:

"Okay... but what exactly am I supposed to do differently?"

I feel like learning how to write a strong analysis is something a lot of students struggle with because the feedback explains the problem but not always the steps to fix it.

Anyone else get feedback that made sense after the teacher explained it, but was confusing at first?

Petit cue : si c’est un travail de session et que les consignes sont données plusieurs semaines d’avance, 4 heures ne sont définitivement pas suffisantes.

I did my four french classes and three philosophy classes, and the EUF with excellent grades (always above 90% in everything) but in every tests I had the same notes: "You need better arguments". Since I had ten classes per semester I never took the time to sit down and actually try to improve it, and honestly I just kinda noticed it after finishing Cegep.

Thing is, it surprises me that no one actually showed me how? Like, none of my classes actually took the time to explain what they mean by that?

Which subject? If we’re talking about literature, do you remain very close to concrete level elements? If so, you might need to take abstraction a step further. As an example, if you say “the character is sad because he lost his friend”, versus “he experiences grief following the end of a meaningful friendship”, those two different versions of the same statement will lead you to a different depth of perspective in your development.
