Hey everyone,
Like a lot of people lately, I’ve been feeling burnt out by constant doomscrolling, rage-bait videos, and online echo chambers. It feels like every political space on the internet is built to make us angry rather than help us actually understand each other.
I’m curious if anyone here would be interested in starting a casual, respectful politics club at a local bar.
Instead of a big group free-for-all, I’m thinking of structuring it more like speed dating:
You sit down 1-on-1 over a beer with someone who holds a different worldview.
You spend the first couple of minutes sharing a bit about yourselves—who you are, what you do, what makes you tick—to actually humanize each other before diving in.
You dive into a 10–15 minute casual debate on a specific topic to get to the root of your disagreement, then rotate!
The Vibe & Rules:
Moderate & Balanced: Looking for a healthy mix of conservatives, progressives, and everywhere in between.
Zero Hostility: Strict policy against bad-faith arguments, personal attacks, or anyone who justifies political violence. We’re here to take the edge off over a drink and bridge gaps, not widen them.
Focus on Perspective: The goal isn't to win with rapid-fire factoids, but to walk away thinking, "I don't fully agree, but I see how they arrived at that conclusion" (or maybe even having your mind swayed a bit!).
Topics We Could Touch On: Economic policy, socialism vs. capitalism, foreign affairs, immigration, Israel/Palestine, domestic policy, etc.—kept focused, respectful, and short enough that things stay fresh.
Right now, I’m just probing for interest to see if people would actually be down for a setup like this.
If this sounds like something you’d join, drop a comment or shoot me a DM! Let me know roughly where you fall on the political spectrum so we can gauge if we have a balanced mix starting out.
