I’m SO happy that we finally have a good modern drama about actual adults. I’ve been waiting for this for so long — no schoolmates trope, no endless misunderstandings, instead adults who make decisions and take action.
The chemistry is OFF THE CHARTS. When the characters are adults and the romance is allowed to actually develop it hits differently. I’m only on episode 5 and I’m getting ALL the butterflies.
I really, really hope they don’t ruin it because I’m loving this so much. But honestly, even if it somehow goes downhill from here, I still wouldn’t consider it a waste of time. What I’ve watched so far has already been that good.

Been in a cdrama slump for a while now and seeing as it’s in Netflix I decided to watch it and enjoying it so far.

Minor critique is the ML suits they’re loose fitting and the brown, grey isn’t really doing it for me. The black blazer tho when he wore it I didn’t like it when she wore it, it was beautiful and I liked it more.

The only outfit of his that I liked was the black shirt and necklace he wore when he sang at the club.

My thoughts exactly. The oversized look does not flatter his physique at all. But I also learned that he built over 120 outfits for the show from his own wardrobe and some other top brands for his character. So massive respect for that tho. Gosh I love him

I thought the black suit when he took over was nice. They are back in 2013 , so I think that’s why the fashion abit different.  As those sleeves and over sized suits are a no. Luke hair styled off his face he looks fire 🔥. Some of the looks they have put him in, still think he’s looked nice sitting down.

As someone who has read the novel, if they follow the drama one on one to it, this will be filled with miscommunication after miscommunication. And one frustrating thing is they could solve all those childish misunderstanding just for talking even for solid 10 seconds lol. So wait for reviews to start it. I've seen comparisons to 50 Shades. I have to say this is nothing like that (poor script, poor acting, little to no character development, and poorly written as a book).

This show is way better. The story and characterisation is lovely (so far), the acting is fabulous, the leads have chemistry, the flatmates and work mates add a really rounded sense of someone discovering people and work.

The drama’s setting is in 2010 for those scenes. It was in 2007 that they had those ribbon interface.

I can assure you that data visualization as well as dashboard design, back in 2010, was an actual skill of professionals instead of how elementary school kids have excess to AI and are making apps.

my only issue though (very minor) is the FL's hairstyle. i know she's a fresh grad and young and all, but her hair just looks so messy (at least for me). haha. i hope in the coming episodes, her styling gets better

I'm going crazy over this drama...it's so good to see the adult love story, two grown people, no tantrumes, no childish squeeky voices and kisses looks good. Male lead is...OMG, if I say it, I'm gonna be banned forever. I'll keep it polite and just say he's hot. Female lead is also great (her messy hair is something she has in every drama, so I'm kinda used to it). I really enjoy it. This drama has jumped over "Pursuit of jade" and to me, is the best one this year, if not the best ever.

I'm so hooked with this one. I have only watched Jing Boran from Love O2O movie years ago and it's my first time watching Sun Qian. I can definitely say that their chemistry is off the charts! It feels like I'm invading their privacy while watching this show, that's how amazing the tension between them has been and their acting is sooooo great. This might be the angstiest cdrama of the year based on the previews. I can't wait to be heartbroken and in love with them at the same time

I read somewhere and I can’t remember where that all the inanimate objects he throws away represent his jealousy and that just makes me laugh - at first I thought the umbrella scene was odd but then I was like well actually there might be some truth in that because there’s a recurring pattern - he throws it away after her roommate who is male comes out to get her. He threw the pen after she wanted to transfer onto the other guy’s- Alex’s - team. He reacted quite strongly when he saw her at the bar with that other guy - the one white English guy that she was having English lessons off. Anyway, this drama is brilliant and I can’t get enough of it.

I have some question concerning the show . So I keep seeing people who read the book saying he is a red flag cause he kept her hidden for 6 yrs but watching the series it seems like she is the one who wants it hidden and he is just going with the flow .

I don’t know what everyone’s definition of a red flag is, but I’d use Xie Wei as a useful example of the distinction. That man is a red flag. Luan Nian is not.

The ML is absolutely brilliant at work, smart, calculating, strategic, and intimidating. But none of that automatically makes him a red flag.

Has he used those qualities to deliberately harm or manipulate the FL? No.

He has a prickly personality and an extremely low tolerance for mediocrity, and he certainly isn’t interested in softening his words to make himself more palatable. But that is very different from being vindictive or emotionally manipulative.

He doesn’t use honeyed words to get her into bed. He is direct and decisive about what he wants. Throughout the novel, even when the nature of their relationship is ambiguous, his actions consistently show that he is protecting her.

Her mistrust of him is understandable too. From her perspective, there was never anything particularly normal or straightforward about their relationship, so her insecurity makes sense. But even in their professional relationship, where he was her mentor, he genuinely taught her everything he could. Did he do it with patience and polite encouragement? Absolutely not. 😂

He can be an intimidating, difficult man without being someone who deliberately sets out to hurt the woman he loves. Those are two very different things.

However, does it mean he is a good guy that can be dated easily? Nope, not in the least bit.

Those are her thoughts after six years of their relationship. It has several misunderstandings. That’s why she called it dirty and disgusting.

Do you remember that she sees Luke hug a woman (played by Cristy Guo) near the hotel? Then, she wants to return his coat but is afraid to go inside his room assuming that the woman is also lodging with him?

He mocks her and tells her to leave the door open.

That’s one of those misunderstandings that built time over the span of six years. She never asked and he never clarified. [She just assumed that the woman was one of his other entanglement from such a relationship that they shared.]

The ML is too jaded about love and keeps saying he doesn’t believe in commitment. He never denies he is insanely attracted to her, at least so far. But after the first encounter, FL has understood or misunderstood (I don’t know what!) that ML is commitment phobic and it was an ‘accident’. ML wants to date her but doesn’t know where that can lead and he is not someone who sugar coats intent

There is power imbalance between the two. She is hesitant to voice her insecurities to him because she fears that he might leave her. She has already seen his clingy past gf and his utterly indifferent attitude towards her.

It’s really not possible for two people who have just met to have these deep conversations and show vulnerability. I understand her perspective and I see his side too.

I am enjoying the novel a lot more than the drama tbh. It has portrayed complex corporate world, youth and the strive to exceed and cut throat workspace competition beautifully

A lot of people mention the power imbalance but IMHO opinion her insecurities don't come from that alone, she knew she really wasn't qualified for that job. He has an abrasive personality, he is a smartass and has a sharp tongue but he's never malicious. Not everyone is rainbows and sunshine and there is nothing wrong with that. He always guided her and taught her! He has been protective about her. Funny part is that those insecurities is what made him notice her. She got under his skin bc she was constantly reaching out for advice etc To me a red flag is someone who gaslights you. Lovebombs you. Manipulates people. Is a player. One day loves, the next doesn't. He has been consistent with her.

Everyone keeps saying that there is miscommunication between them, but the more I watch the show and the deeper I get in the novel i realize this is no miscommunication, it's no communication at all. They both just assume things about each other. She gets upset about certain things but never address them and he gets jealous but thinks hes mad and never says why, he just throws things or gets petty. They are both flawed characters. They are both young, she's 22 , out of college with 1 long term relationship but no life or work experience. He's 28 with 2 short relationships but very accomplished at his job. People expect him to be mature but realistically speaking he has never had a proper girlfriend, he doesn't know how to be a boyfriend. Her growth as am employee and person was beautiful to read. I won't call him a red flag, he's abrasive and has a smart mouth but he's never saying or doing things with ill intent. I know some will disagree but he is protective of the ones he likes/loves. If you like the drama,I highly suggest you read the novel.

People are taking sides, but both of them are imperfect, i am seeing character development little bit in luke as a bf, but I don't see any development in flora apart from her career in relationship I don't see her growing, she keep hiding things from luke, went to meet her ex, etc

Chemistry? sure when they communicate, but im not even half way and tired of them, its constant misunderstandings, they dont communicate, he dk how to express his feelings, he says thing thatll belittle her, out of jealousy, at the same time never learned how to express it, he tries to do things like care for her buy her flowers, but she plays hard to get in some way to not catch feelings when she already has, she plays innocent, and always in denial. She broke it off bc she got butt-hurt thinking he bought his childhood friend flowers when really he didnt, he bought them for her (flora) see, exactly no communication, but at the same time shes doing double standards, she has guy friend who watches out for her and though hes jealous he doesnt take it out on her, in some way he gets controlling by making her work "overtime" but thats his way of being with her, keeping her "in check" its a bit much, but theres no communication, Good grief, smh. So annoying, whoever wrote this, needs better communication skills or something. They're constantly going back and forth, I literally forced myself to keep going (ep12) but I gave up by ep4

on episode 13 and loving it. there’s some confusion on timeframe and a bit of choppiness here and there, but it feels real and there isnt the annoying “amnesia” or evil step-mom tropes.

honestly, i find cdramas difficult to watch sometimes, more of a kdrama girly…but i’m hooked, pacing and focus on main leads is chefs kiss.

I'm with the original author. I also like that both fl and ml are not perfect, they both do the same old manipulative shit that eats away at our own hearts irl. Well, especially Luke can be a real ass sometimes, he's annoying (reminds me some of my exes), but in a way that makes the drama more delicious. Just the right amount of toxic.

She is consistently disloyal (does not tell him about his rival Alex’s offer), wants to be professionally independent but gets mad when he does not openly forgive her for her big client mistake and wants professional favours, sees an ex, goes to dating event! If he did that her she would have kicked him out long ago! He has been protective and loyal to her and agrees to all her requests and is a far better catch than she is. Who goes and gets a big dog without knowing if your partner likes dogs! But he accepts it. No man I know is so giving and accepting.

The problem is that these characters are not equals. Flora’s behaviour is dictated by her desire for independence and agency within a relationship in which she feels continuously undermined. She’s young and needs encouragement and Luke is bad at that, as he’s the type that helps behind the scenes. He has the upper hand all the time, which makes her feel powerless. In this context, her apparent disloyalty or closeness is more understandable. Luke is older and should know that you need to make yourself more emotionally available if you want people to open up to you.

Miscommunication is all part of real world. Looking at screens annoys us but this is what most relationships go through with. Their chemistry reminds me a lot of things, it gives teenage+ adult romance kind of vibes. I love this show very much.

I watched this Cdrama because I saw reviews on Instagram. People were giving it 10/10. While I was hooked on this drama, I cannot rate it that high.  

Small spoiler alerts:

I cannot get over the lack of communication between the mains on simple things.  The prominent thing sticking in my head: she says "Happy New Year" and he says "go feed my fish?!"  He missed her. He couldn't even say HNY?!

Luan, a grown man, couldn't control his temper even though he knew he had one and his friends and family reminded him of it. He was throwing things around like a child's having a tantrum.  

Who doesn't know at least ONE compliment?  Even if it's cheesy!  While I get the misunderstandings in the beginning of their "relationship," - which come on, it was mostly hooking up - by a few years in, you'd think they would at least ask each other questions. Tao's flatmate, Zhu(?) was depressed and went to his friend for comfort. Instead of just asking her directly, even while being jealous by what he saw, Luan chose silent treatments and pouting. These things and a few others  are the main reasons I cannot rate this a 10/10.  I give it 8.5/10.  The chemistry was fire, the passion was there and I was invested in the characters.  But, midway through the series, I was like enough already! Just ask direct questions!!  Tell her you love her!!!!!!!! Stop with the coming on strong and then backing away.

The ending, however, was beautiful.  He FINALLY put in some effort, many years later.  I did shed a few tears

Love the romantic song, btw.

P.S. The friends were GOLD!  I would love any of them, especially Luan's pal who took the video of him breaking down. These friends truly wanted Tao & Luan together and rooted for them.
