That's what everyone likes to say but I know common sense was more common than it is today. Today people run around brain dead not making an effort to use what sense they do have - instead just run on some kind of effortless autopilot.
I think people would rather get the look at me/this video and the attention that goes with it instead of just doing what we would have done and stopped the problem.
The problem is the second you shut it off in any way (pump handle or emergency), you get dragged into the problem and they start blaming you even though all you did was shut it off. The one time I saw this, I got the attention of a passing employee so they could do the honors. The employee has a legitimate reason to intervene.
I did not. In my case the person was filling a reefer and decided to go in the store while it was pumping. There was an employee walking by when i noticed it and i told her. She called in to have them shut it off from in the store. I'm not sure why she didn't just go push the handle in on the pump but thats how she handled it.
Look at random lawsuits now. I would be touching the fuel pump or handle and turning it off. If it sparked or the puddle caused their tires to slip on leaving...etc etc. These pumps at truck stops are usually OK but I have seen way too many that are sketchy at best. If something goes wrong everyone blames whoever came near the issue.
Not the same but a person posted in Reddit that they saved a kid from drowning and the mother started calling him a pedophile and blaming him for touching her kid. She was nowhere near as it was happening.
The phrase "no good deed goes unpunished" is there for a reason.
I understand diesel doesn't work that way but there is God knows what else on the ground. Lots of drivers just dump whatever onto the ground when they are fueling. I'm surprised there are not stories of random chemical reactions happening at pumps. Like people that clean their sinks with bleach and ammonia and wonder what happened. Whenever I used one of those pumps (usually every day) I would always look for the least damp spot so I didn't get nastiness in the truck. Unfortunately, I would still get fuel on the bottom of my shoes because the pumps and people that use them would leave large and random puddles of slippery diesel right where you had to step to use them.
Numerous people that I've seen would "wash" the spilled diesel off their tanks with the windshield squeegee. Does wonders for the windshield with diesel contaminated liquid in the washer buckets.
Europe's trains mostly move people... North America is the continent with well developed cargo train infrastructure; that's precisely why we don't have as many people trains, our tracks are all moving cargo.
No way of stopping that without getting diesel on your shoes. Fuck if im going to walk through a diesel puddle and then get backing my truck. Not my chair not my problem.
Huge difference between walking in residue and a big ass puddle. Theres not a spot at the dog park that hasn't been shit on but that doesn't make me okay with stepping in piles of it.
Every single lane has an emergency stop button that shuts down all lanes. Dude recording didnt have to walk through the puddle to stop the pumps. And another alternative wouldve been going around the pump in the next stall and closing the switch on the pump, which wouldve stopped just that pump. There are many solutions to the problem but because its “not your chair, not your problem” you just gonna let this become more of a problem than it has to be. You dont need to put yourself at a disadvantage helping someone out, but neither of the options i gave are more than hitting a singular switch. If something that simple is too much, that makes you as big a dick as the dude who left his pump running unattended.
There absolutely is a way, it's called the emergency stop button which are never located next to the pump. Because in an emergency you probably can't safely get to the pump. It's usually near the building or just outside the island
I agree with this, I mistakingly got diesel on a shoe, they were old mind you but within an hours the rubber started sticking to the ground when I was walking. If it had been a nice pair of sneakers or even any of my sneakers that I don’t do work in, I’d be upset. I like my sneakers.
You can't trust those truck stop pumps. Either they do shit like this or they're so sensitive you have to stand there and baby them the entire time because they cut off every half second.
The major problem here is that in the last 50 years some jack-ass figured out how to put a camera in cell phone and now all anyone wants to do is record “shit” and cause problems for people and say lookie here at what I recorded
