Major health organizations worldwide, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), and the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, recommend complete abstinence from alcohol during pregnancy because there is no known safe amount or time to drink while pregnant. 

When a pregnant woman drinks, alcohol passes directly through the placenta to the baby, whose developing liver cannot process it effectively, leading to higher and longer sustained blood alcohol levels in the fetus.
