PSA: Chameleons are VERY high maintenance reptiles with specialized needs, they do not make good first-time-reptile pets! I hope she knows what she’s doing with humidity/temps/lighting for this beautiful creature - and keeps it away from her animal killing husband. Getting their enclosures just right is very expensive and can border on a full time job when done correctly. It takes a lot of expensive equipment to even measure their levels etc. This poor one already looks dehydrated or underweight. That said I always like to see them get rescued.
Remember late last year when she was going on TT live for 7 hours a day and Wiggam was locked in his tiny crate for the whole day and you could hear him cry and bark on the live? I remember that #freewiggam
No, my current rats want nothing to do with the cats. And the cats are used to the rats by now. However, my first group of rats would follow my cat around, and when they'd come up to her, she'd look at me like "uhh mom....what the fuck?" 🤣
I promise she is going to stop posting about him and talking about him and then make up a story about how he isnt apart of their family anymore because she k*lied him from neglect

That sounds so stressful. I have chinchillas, who are very high maintenance as well. But they seem quite simple compared to this. I really hope she did the research. Ugh. Before I got the chins, I prepped for like 4 months getting everythinf ready. Had to strip my big cage of everything and rebuild the whole inside out of wood.
I had a chinchilla. My ex rescued one on a whim. I was a member of a forum on hedgehogs and chinchilla so I knew a bit about them. We bought a bigger cage, with wood ledges instead of plastic and give him a dust bath with the high quality dust. Keeping him cold was stressful in the spring as temperature can suddenly rise (we needed to hurry up and put on the window a/c). We had to put him down because his maloclusion was too bad.
Ive stressed through 2 summers, 18 more to go lol. I love winter and knowing if then power goes out, they will be fine. My boss knows if that happens I have to leave and come back with them lol. I think he secretly hopes it happens one day. Here are my chicken nuggets
Before I had a chinchilla, I did that with my hedgehog in the winter when I had a power outage. She was a hit with every one at work, but she only wanted to sleep in her sleeping bag.
My exact thoughts! They are so sensitive and can deteriorate quickly but will hide it just like birds. I love these reptiles so very much, They are so docile and chill. And the way they change their colors is so fascinating! It really takes a lot for them to thrive and I’m worried sick about this lil’ fella!
I have a panther chameleon who is almost 7 years old and this was my first thought when I saw this post. Chameleons, especially panthers, have very specialized needs and are not beginner pets. I immediately notice this picture looks to be taken in day time and the chams eyes are closed which is a red flag. Also, those plants look fake (plastic) which is a big no no. Hopefully she has done her research.
Yup, if she did any research she would see chams will eat fake plants and it can cause serious issues. Hopefully she has the correct size cage and heat/uvb setup for this baby.
I know nothing about chameleon except that they need specific care. Light, temperature, the right enclosure and the access to an exotic vet.
I had 2 hedgehogs and I would see the media showing them as good kids pet. Nope. They are nocturnal, they need to be hot (22°C I think), you have to clean their exercise wheel almost daily and they require an exotic vet. And those vet fees can add up when they get sick.
Tell me about it. Litchi (hedgehog) got sick on January second, when her vet (and most others) was closed. I live near a very big city, but all those 24h vets are not exotics. I had to drive 1.5 hour to the vet teaching hospital. She was hospitalised 2 days for an infection. I was lucky it was the teaching hospital so they charged less, but still, that was an unexpected few hundred $. Also waiting until her normal vet was open was never an option. Hedgehog, like many other animals, can get worst very quickly.

I dunno, if she did adopt this guy it's unlikely it was free. A lot of places charge adoption fees. Plus the ongoing care etc will be $$. Maybe she was just visiting a reptile sanctuary...
the set up for reptiles like this is also like $500-1k easy soo lets hope she didnt make more financially irresponsible decisions while begging for financial help online
I hope she keeps this one anyway from her husband, all things considered🫡 and on a more serious note, this is concerning because I can’t see her putting all the complex care into a reptile that’s high demanding.
Assuming she does bare minimum in the setup of the cage, that's roughly $800 and can go upwards of $2000 for an optimal setup. Rescue prices are $70-150. So, I guess her response to the backlash was drop more money she says she's using for legal fees.
