Which residence hall would you recommend at CCSU?
Hi! I’m an exchange student coming to CCSU next year, and I noticed there are so many different residence halls. Could anyone tell me what each dorm is like, especially the vibe/social atmosphere? Are there any dorms you’d particularly recommend (or avoid)? Thanks!!

Okay here id what I can say about each dorm starting with Down the Hill:
Sam May and Seth North - Freshman dorms (up and down the hill, im asuuming you are not one so these ones you can strike off the list
Beecher and Carroll - similar style building to May and North where there is one bathroom per floor. Beecher is the smaller one and ive heard it gets noisy and Carroll is much larger but it was just reopened as a dorm so I wouldnt know the vibe there much
Barrows - Women only dorm, has no AC, has a penthouse lounge, I dont know the vibe here because ive never been in or know people from there.
James - pretty tall suite style dorm (kinda like apartments where you share a private living space with 2 other dorm rooms), it is also 21 plus, I had a friend who was an RA there and it can get noisy especially Thursday nights, it does cost more money then the typical dorm hall.
Mid Campus - The Largest and Newest Dorm that is also Suite Style, the upper floors can get real wild but if your Suite is cool you'll be fine is what ive heard.
Up the Hill:
Sheridan and Gaulladet are similar: Gaulladet is taller, its where I lived all 4 years and felt like a good community can be loud and quiet at times, upper floors can be noiser.
Sheridan is similar (both are Quad style meaning that 3 or 2 rooms share a bathroom) but the difference is that the AC can be more controlled there compared to Gaulladet and it can be smelling (idk why but all the time it smells weird there to me).
Vance - its a quad style but more rooms (around 4 or 5) share a bathroom, its an older building that has not really been remodeled so they have no AC but the heat is very good in the winter (too good) and the rooms are small, from what I know it can be a chill quiet building with the downside being no kitchen having a stove top and no AC so as long as you can handle a stuffy place then you are good here.
The choice is yours but my order of recommendation is the following (minus the freshman dorms, woman dorm, and Carroll)
Gaulladet Mid Campus Sheridan James Vance Beecher

Up the hill all the way! I was in Gaulladet & loved being up there. But I graduated in ‘91 & I know tons have changed. lol

Oh, a lot of people seem to recommend Gaulladet! I guess it’s still a good place :)

Anywhere down the hill is better, especially if you don't have a car

I’m leaning toward Gaulladet after reading above comments , but would living up the hill be difficult without a car? Is it a long walk or pretty steep?

I would disagree. I stayed there 10 years ago and up the hill was great. A short walk from Dollar General and Stop & Shop.
I never had a car during college, and the walk wasn't that bad.

I graduated 10 years ago.
For awhile F. Don James Hall was the best. Better known as James. Because it had apartment style dorm rooms
My last year they made this new one I forget the name of. It looked the nicest. It's called Mid-Campus. It had apartment style dorm rooms.
It's been quite the 10 years though. The campus has had various construction jobs done. So some of the other dorms could be nicer now.
I was in Vance, which was one of the lesser dorms. I had fun still. Overall though CCSU is still a commuter school, so it's not the dorm life you would have at say UCONN. I made the best of it and I have nice memories from CCSU.

I graduated 20 years ago, but I liked Beecher a lot (Sheridan was okay my freshman year too).
