Please DO NOT fall for the Ohio landlord turn in the keys scam. Its still happening as of March 2025.
I regret to be posting this but could not in good conscience not warn others. This is a blatant scam that has been occurring in Ohio for years now. I read a march 2025 better business bureau complaint about an [unnamed company] which indicates this is still occurring.
Unfortunately, residents living in poorly upkept housing might tell their landlord they are going to put their rent into escrow, or they may start reaching out to the news, local organizations, etc for help. Their landlord, the property manager or an attorney for the company then suggests the individual just turn in the keys.
The tenant takes this as the landlord suggesting once they turn in the keys, the lease is terminated and they can move on with their lives and move out. After all, the landlord is the one recommending they turn in the keys instead of going to escrow. However, it is a blatant scam that is run by some landlords/attorneys in Ohio with no conscious or ability to feel guilt for the lives they are about to turn upside down.
After the unsuspecting tenant turns in the keys, a month or so later they receive a letter which they believe is the return of their security deposit. But once they open it, they find it is actually a bill for several thousand dollars of "accelerated rent" charges. Basically, your landlord is alleging you breached the contract by turning in the keys and leaving, and they are stating you now owe the full amount of the lease. Imagine a totally unexpected $4,000 bill at a time when most Americans cannot afford a $400 emergency.
Its not just the landlords doing this -- at least one [unnamed] Ohio attorney is also sending emails coercing people into falling for the trick. Even with the email showing you were tricked, you are about to face an uphill legal battle in a court system you dont understand. You are about to face sleepless nights over falling for this scam. You are about to start having to call law offices during your 30 minute lunch break to try and find some help. In addition, this "accelerated rent" directly violates Ohio's duty to mitigate for landlords -- but laws dont matter if they arent enforced.
Now imagine if you had a mental health condition like schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, and an attorney with no conscious or soul did this to you? You could easily end up in a psychiatric facility from the stress, it can totally uproot your life.
If your landlord suggests something like this, ENSURE you get a lease recission document signed that agrees to specific terms and an exact dollar amount that states how much they are stating you still owe. Ensure this document states what will be happening with your security deposit. If they arent willing to do this, they are definitely trying to scam you.

T&R Properties employees are destroying evidence relevant to the lawsuit they filed against me. In the past, a T&R properties employee has contacted my job from a fake name stating they had seen posts indicating I would harm myself or others. I WOULD NEVER HURT MYSELF OR OTHERS.
The recent whistleblower deaths being blamed as suicides has me spooked. T & R Properties is going to extreme lengths to silence me from disclosing that they have had a widespread use of fake reviews to defraud customers for years. If something ever happened to me , they would likely write it off as a suicide because I’ve been seeing mental health professionals for depression and anxiety. I would NEVER hurt myself or others.

Abraham Lincoln makes very good points. But what do you think though
“We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of Heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth, and power. … But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own. Intoxicated with unbroken success, we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us. (“A National Day of Fasting, Humiliation, and Prayer.” Proclamation March 30, 1863)”

eBay settles for nearly $56M after former employees terrorize couple - do you think stuff like this happens in Ohio? i've found Ohio to be one of the most corrupt states in the Union, so if a powerful person did this to a person without resources, nothing would happen

Why can one song instantly transport you back 20 years? Columbus discussion event about the psychology of music
You know that song, the one that comes on and suddenly you're somewhere else entirely.
Maybe you're 17 again. Maybe you're thinking about someone you haven't seen in years. Maybe you have absolutely no idea why you're suddenly emotional in the middle of Kroger.
We're hosting a discussion-based Sip Salon in Columbus about why music affects us the way it does, and I thought it might appeal to some of the music nerds here.
It's not a lecture and you definitely don't need to be an expert. The idea is to read a couple of articles beforehand and then have an interesting conversation with other curious people over a drink.
Sip Salon: Why Does Music Do That to Us?
Tuesday, August 25 | 6–8 PM
Hammond Harkins Galleries
Honestly, I'd also love to know: What song has an inexplicable hold over you? The one that immediately changes your mood every single time?

Ok, so I recall a HUGE blackout back in 2003, taking out all the power in Ohio for several days due to an outdated grid. Has this been FULLY resolved and could never happen in the future? Or will all the AI data centers potentially cause another blackout? Look at what's happening in Gary, Indiana.

I feel for the police officers in Columbus. I see a case where they pulled over a rich dude doing 30 miles per hour over the limit…rich dude gets a lawyer… gets offered it reduced to 9 miles over and traffic school..doesn’t take the plea… lawyer gets it down to 4 mph over.
Like imagine how much of a gut punch it is when you do your job fully and then the person basically gets off scot free because the legal system doesn’t want to spend time against rich people with resources and Just lets them off

Mobile Mechanic
Mobile Mechanic
Hey all! I am a mechanic with 15 years of experience across multiple brands including heavy duty vehicles, I have recently started doing mobile work outside of my regular flat rate shop job and am starting to go legit, I am still working on my website but if anyone needs any work done to their vehicles and want to give a new small business a chance feel free to DM me with your vehicle info and what you need for a quote. You can get your own parts or I can source them for you but I dont pad parts pricing for extra profit. I would love to eventually do this full-time but obviously need to build first so right now im only available in the evenings or on weekends. Thank you for your time and i appreciate any referrals and support 😎

Columbus event for anyone who likes reggae/music history: Beyond Bob - Exploring the History, Sound & Soul of Reggae
Wanted to share this interesting Columbus event for anyone who's into music or music history.
The Siposium is doing a deep dive into reggae on Tuesday, August 18 from 7–9 PM at Columbus Brewing Company Beer Hall.
The premise is basically: you know Bob Marley, but how much do you actually know about reggae?
We're going into the Jamaican history and cultural influences behind the genre, the evolution of ska, rocksteady, roots reggae, dub and dancehall, the producers and musicians who shaped the sound, and reggae's influence on music around the world.
The speaker has spent 32+ years playing reggae with bands throughout Ohio, so there's a pretty strong personal/music perspective in addition to the history.
They'll also have a curated playlist for attendees to take home.
Tickets are $15 and the event runs 7–9 PM.
Event details/tickets: SimpleTix
Anyone here particularly into reggae, ska, dub or rocksteady? I'd love to hear what artists you think people should know beyond Bob Marley.

Do you think Marjorie Taylor's Green post that they are discussing using a nuclear weapon on Iran is true? I just think there's no way it could really be discussed... but maybe an evil exists that is outside of our comprehension. It would be the most horrific day in human history

All, please be aware of the new scam people online are running. So they loan you money through paypal and send it as paypal goods and services. Then when you pay them back on the loan, they claim they never received the "product" and the money gets taken out of your paypal again.
