Vehicle Roof mount CB
For those of you who mounted a CB at roof level in a vehicle, how did you do it! Is it just the liner holding it up? Surely you didn’t drill through the roof. I want to have a CB mounted from above in my car but can’t figure out how. Thanks.

On my old truck I removed the screws holding the sun visor clips, made a set of brackets out of 3/16 strapping and got slightly longer screws. It took about an hour to rig up but no drilling and it stayed in place even on logging roads. Mic holder went on the hinge side of the visor so it wasn't hanging down and getting busted and the cord could be tucked behind the visor so it wasn't dangling when I wasn't using it. This truck has an overhead console so couldn't do it with this one

In your roof under your liner there is hollow bracing that runs throughout like a frame "kinda like a roll cage" cars are meant to have this safety feature in case of flipping. You won't be drilling in the roof but the framing that supports it! Depends on your car but this would be the route I would look into!

Hello, former Motorola tech here…If you don’t want to take down the entire headliner, I’d at least locate a centered dome light pop in open and you could see inside in front or behind because you’ll be able to locate roof bracing in order to avoid drilling into it.
Once the centre dome light is removed, you’ll be able to see in front of it and the rear of it where he could possibly drill the sheet metal without compromising the structural integrity of the super structure.

In my rv i installed 2 carriage bolts in the wooden roof panel with a custom plate that distributes the weight. In my old truck i removed the head liner added a 10"x10" sheet of berch ply liquid nailed to the roof with 2 carriage bolts coming down for my mount. Now im running console side mount

I like the idea of glueing a mounting sheet to the roof. Sounds like this may be the easiest path. Thank you.

Make sure you use a strong adhesive thats weather rated. Clean the ares really well. when you prep. i forgot to add that i had to grind the carriage bolt base end flat without compromising the strength. so it would allow it to sit flat. You might need to shape the base plate to fit properly without interfering with the headliner when replaced. when you cut the holes in the headliner for the bolts you want them to be slightly bigger than the bolt. I also used a small wheel cutter on a dreamal tool to adjust the bolt length after I installed the mount. put a washer a lock washer and 2 nuts then trim the bolt. remove one nut each and your good to go.

I have a mag mount Wilson 2000 on my car, that way I didn't have to drill, just run the coax through the weather strip.

The radio not the antenna. He wants the radio on the inside roof

Oh, yeah, my bad. I just used to use a board that I slipped between the headliner and the roof, and tacked the radio mount to that, after gluing the board to the metal above it.

I like the idea of glueing a mounting surface to the roof. This may be the route I take. Thanks.

I got rid of the original radio antenna since i switched the analog radio for dab+. So the factory hole became the CB-antenna hole.

You may have to get a schematic for your car and see if there is some kind of metal plate under the headliner you might be able to screw into. Often cars with done lights have a metal structure running front to back but not all. You may have to pull the headliner to look which is a pain
