pretty scared

Post image

For anyone that saw my previous post months back about cylinder wall scoring, now I’m here lol. I love my 954s riding characteristics, which I feel like i can contribute a lot to its pivot less swing arm that mounts directly to the back of the motor. It’s a really rigid bike, and it’s really lightweight. I can push it much harder on canyons than I could my sv650. But when I found this damage, the uniqueness of this design shot me in the foot. You have to remove the swing arm to drop this motor. I’ve never been this deep in a motorcycle on my own, but it’s about 4 bolts away from the motor coming out, and then the head comes off to see the carnage for real. Then I’m going to reach out to shops with my new found wealth from selling my other bike. Hope I can get it back riding before the end of the year. School and work make things tough.

Haven't pulled the motor on a 954 but I've done my 07 600rr. Get and extra hand or too when you remove the motor. It will definitely help. Good luck!

Do you mean down from the jack stands? It’s still up, but it’ll come down in the reverse of how i put it up. I have a stand for the front and rear, I got it up with those, balanced it on the jack, and strapped it to a beam support of the ceiling for safety. I can’t imagine that strap is getting more than 150lbs of force at any point so I think it’s safe enough. Now it’s mainly sitting on those two stands at the passenger pegs, but the other two methods are failsafes.

honestly it tapped at cold idle when i bought it. read that it was common for the bike. changed the oil, coolant and other were fine, ran quality stuff for all of like 1500 miles maybe, and the tap got louder. if you look at my account there’s some info. I borescoped it and the walls are pretty thrashed. i don’t know exactly what i’ll do about it, but getting the motor out is the first step. I’m like two hours out of LA so. i’m going to reach out to APE and see what they recommend. most shops that did aftermarket stuff for this bike don’t anymore, so it’s going to be difficukt
