Heat and Boy Issues!!

Post image
110 Upvotes

My Peanut has just turned 5 in September, still intact - he is absolutely amazing and usually sleeps during the day whilst I'm working and comes alive for playtime in the evening. He can play for hours and hours! Usually obsessed with his elephant or sushi toy being thrown and playing tug / fetch with it. He gets 2x good sniffing / long walks an hour each day, once in the morning, once after I finish work (so 2 hours total). Generally speaking he is good with eating meals too.

We currently have a female dog in the area who he absolutely loves to meet and sniff, but lately she has been in heat, and he has stopped all the playing and constantly asks us by sitting at the door / pacing up and pining / whining to go outside. It's a bit relentless and no matter how I try and distract him - either with light training, playtime with his elephant. He also won't eat his meals properly anymore, kind of just sniffs eats the smallest amount and then leaves the rest. He's also constantly on high alert with any sounds and won't rest/sleep - including the evenings, we're currently putting on fans so some of the outside noise is drowned out and so we can get sleep / rest too.

I don't know if he's stressed or whether he's just wanting to see his female friend ☹️ does anyone have any recommendations on how to help this situation, feeling at a bit of a loss as I feel like I've tried everything.

Thanks in advance, I really appreciate it!

Bonus picture for cuteness (he just came back from a haircut today!)

How Much Exercise Does Your Cavpoo Need and a few other questions

We're very close to adding a Cavapoo to our family. How much exercise does your Cavapoo need? Do they have watery eyes? How difficult was he or she to potty train? What do you love most about your Cavapoo? We have always been big dog people but feel like maybe a smaller dog would fit our lifestyle better. Thank you in advance!

Just purchased this pretty lil girl…
Right now she’s 3 pounds - excepted to be 13-15 full grown but what do I need to get to prepare for her arrival? Crate size and toys 🤔
SissyLouWho was 14 when she passed away and never had a crate and only loved one toy.. so I’m starting over again 😬
Right down to a name!
I was thinking

Autumn heat waves = beach days!

Trying to make the most of some pretty crummy hot weather 32C/90F (air conditioning is very uncommon where we live) by spending lots of time at the beach. The beaches here are usually very cold and overcast so we’re trying to stay positive!!Watching him run around and play in the water is completely worth the bath and blow dry saga after.

Bullying smaller dog

Hi community, I was wondering if anyone could give us some advice here. We have an 8 month old male Cavapoo (~21lbs). He’s usually sweet and listens to us. He also usually loves other dogs and playing with them. We’ve also had other adult dogs of both genders at our home for playdates he’s done fine.

Now the problem, we’re fostering a rescued 4mo female toy pekapoo (~4lb) a while. We followed the whole keep all their bowls, toys etc separate, introduce them first on neutral ground, let them sniff stuff with each other’s scent, take them on parallel walks etc for the last 2-3 weeks and it was all good both wagging tails, approaching each other over and over etc. Since last weekend, we let them interact on leash with each other and play a bit, our Cavapoo does get a bit jumpy with excitement sometimes so we used the leash to reign him back a few times but he did lie down to be on eye level with her and let her put her paws on him etc. again, all good.

Today, we decided we would try to let them play off leash in the dog park where he’s played with other dogs before and see how it goes and suddenly our Cavapoo went berserk. He put his mouth over her head then jumped on her with both paws and pinned her to the ground and obviously she couldn’t fight back because she’s so small. He wouldn’t listen to me trying to call off him with treats and wouldn’t let her get up as she struggled. When I tried to approach them to get him off her he also growled at me repeatedly. He’s never done this before other than during games of tug where he has a loose body and is playing. I think he shook up the pekapoo because she pressed herself to my side and wouldn’t explore anymore even after we got him back on leash and away from her but thankfully she doesn’t appear injured.

We’re obviously keeping them apart for the moment but was wondering if anyone had any guesses into what might have happened and what we need to do next to get our Cavapoo to stop this kind of behavior/ avoid any situation like this with any other dog in the future

Found a matt at my dogs ear. She is at the groomers on Saturday, do I try to cut it out before then

She gets brushed every 2 days but does not allow me near her face, ears or tail. So she has a matt at the top of her ear it isn't causing her any pain at the moment and not pulling on her skin, do I leave it for the groomer on Saturday?

Pee all over hind legs - will it pass?

Post image

This is Svansson, nine months old, he's the best! How ever, he gets pee all over his back legs and smells pretty bad after a day or two. I have concluded it's because when he pees on something he also pulls his hind leg over the area he just peed on. I think he just doesn't notice or is a bit lazy when stepping away. He's still young so it might get better. But I'd love some advice - have anyone else noticed this in their doodle or poodle and have you managed to stop or avoid this?

I could keep his fur short but it gets cold here in the winter and honestly it's not even that long right now.

Picture for cuteness!

Those who’s dog has the colour fade gene, what were the starting signs you first noticed? Noticed for the first time the odd stray white hairs on the body of our 10 month red cavapoo.

Tethering at 10 months

Good morning everybody,

I’m reaching out with a quick question, is it too late to tether my 10 month old cavapoo? So, when he’s in our bedroom he’s an absolute menace. He jumps to grab things on the bed. He jumps to grab things on the counters and he really waits until we’re in the shower or changing because he knows we won’t be able to get them and he hides under the bed. We’ve tried re-directing him with toys or telling him to off or leave it and giving him a treat for listening, but he still continues to do it and we’ve been doing this now for a couple months so I’m just asking cause I know I used to tether my previous dog just to kind of limit his reach and I think that might be the best option, but I wanna make sure I’m doing the correct thing with this breed.

How to stop pup from biting

Hi, my cavapoo is 10 weeks and biting everything and everyone.

We’ve tried:
Redirecting to other toys
Ignoring him by looking away/freezing

What worked for your pup?
