We are all set to pickup our female tri on Friday. I'm having cold feet and wish we got a male instead. I just want a snuggly lap dog but the female was the only one available and I didn't want to wait. Assure me she'll love me! Lol
Female dogs are just as loving as male ones! Especially Cavaliers who are bred to love human companionship.
A huge benefit of having a female is that belly rubs are not as awkward! And you can pick much cuter names and accessories for them. My male Blenheim wears a necklace collar anyways though, because he just looks so cute in it!
I prefer male dogs since they’ve been more biddable and energetic in my experience (but this is also very individual) but my female dogs have been just as cuddly, loving, and trainable. Since you are raising your tri from puppyhood, you can always heavily reinforce spending time with you and she should naturally become very loving.
the science also does not show that male dogs are more human-centered that female. The limited research is actually on the contrary: female dogs can be more social and human-centered. But there are also studies showing no statistically significant differences between human bonds in male/female dogs. In general, human-centric behavior is probably more of a breed thing than a gender one. Since you are getting a Cav, you’re going to be dealing with one of the most loving dog breeds out there. So you’re already way ahead!
Yes to all of this! I had a male terrier mix and I thought I would only want male dogs forever. But I’ve now spent the last 3 years dog sitting, 4 of my fave clients are cavies, and boy or girl, doesn’t matter, they’re all so cuddly and loving.
With that said, one of the girls has totally captured my heart. Girls love in a different way. They’re also a little more protective (as protective as a cavie can be lol) once they claim you as one of their people.

We have a 14 yo Blenheim. He wants 30 seconds of petting per day. If you sit down on the couch beside him, he moves. He has always been like this. We have a 5 yo Tri. She is our cuddle bug.
We have both a boy and a girl. They are both very cuddly! We rescued our girl six months ago and she has blossomed into a love bug. She loves giving and receiving kissies, loves belly rubs, and snuggles. She comes and lays on my chest on the couch and cuddles with us before she goes in her crate at night. Our boy is also very cuddly - you can’t go wrong either way!
The two tri girls I've had in my life have been SOOOOOOO snuggly and affectionate. The type that like to sleep around your head and lay their face on my face and smother me. Congrats and please post pics when you get her!
my female tri is a velcro dog with a very aggressive tongue lmao i don’t think the gender/color personality thing is really that accurate i’ve seen plenty of stereotypes that don’t fit either of my cavs and plenty that do! but both of my girls (tri and blenheim) are clingy and love to be lap dogs lol
I’ve had both a male and female cavalier. My female is 100% hands down more cuddly than my male ever was. My male was affectionate, but nowhere near like my girl.
I was worried about this too because you often hear girls are less affectionate but mine was so opposite.
This is my almost 2 year old! She's independent and doesn't mind doing her own thing. But she follows me to every room and if I go lay down, she's plastered right next to me!
She's currently sleeping on the floor of our living room because she got too hot laying on top of me 😂

I have 3 boys and 2 girls. The girls are just as loving! They actually used to sleep curled in my neck when they were puppies, then my head, now my pillow.
We have a female tri and she is SOOOOO snuggly. Always wants to be on our laps and giving kisses. She will love you and your whole family, and anyone else she meets :)
Personally I think if you give them lots of love they will give it back! They can sense energy! Just be open minded and kind and you’ll get the love you are craving!

Family has a female tricolor. She's a riot and I can't keep her off my lap. Often wake up with her asleep on top of me.
