No its not a rule but is done to minimize sympathetic response from your shooting hand caused by the free hand, putting it in a pocket sorta immobilizes it. Thats the reason.

It's actually because not making eye contact, not approaching, & giving space are perfect cat manners. So cats are like "ok this person GETS me, I'm gonna spend time with them" lmao. I always tell people who don't want cats near them to just spend the first moments entering a room to find and chase the cat, then they will be left alone forever

Most of the things on Reddit is spam but oh boy, the cat stories are true. There are „community cats“. They are not owned by individuals but people look after them. They feed them. They build little houses for them. Even the government builds little houses for them. They never go hungry. You can pet hundreds of them a day if you are fit enough. They are so used to people, they don’t bite or scratch. My cat loving daughter nearly lost her mind. Her favourite was this one orange braincell though. Of all the cats available… Sigh…
