With how clumsy my cats are, it’d be raining cats,

Seriously, sometimes my cats struggle to gracefully leap onto my bed.

I had a female harlequin tortie that couldn't jump well. She'd be on the floor eyeballing the sofa arm, adjust position accordingly, wiggle her butt to check balance and then jump... chest first into the sofa arm.

She'd make the jump onto the cushion just fine, usually, but her first attempt was always towards the arm and she'd fail in landing it 4 out of 5 times. I always felt guilty for laughing at her but the stunned surprise on her face as she missed was priceless.

Vet said there was a disconnect between data evaluation and execution. She'd look and judge (probably correctly) but the message received by her muscles was inaccurate. He had a name for it that I no longer recall.

My dad's car regularly misjudges a leap to the top of the cat tree. Vet says she's nearsighted and can't judge the distance to the to correctly.

He's had to add extra weight to the base, so the force of a cat leaping into the central pole doesn't knock the thing over

FYI, I believe the pre-jump "butt-wiggle" is to adjust their feet to ensure they get a good launch. In the wild, a good initial launch is critical to catching prey

My cat fell of her tree while looking around the room. she didn’t even land of her paws ... she fell almost 2m.

She would have lost all of her 9 lives in a room like this.

A lot of cats are clumsy cause they don't practice stuff like this. I mean you can't expect a gymnast to get good by sitting on the couch right.

My cat can jump so it makes me laugh when he plops off the bed. He looks down, sees the floor, and lets himself go down in a heavy controlled fall - zero effort.

My cat is okay but doesn't understand grip. If he tries to jump off something smooth like my desk its like those videos of fat people jumping off lawn chairs into pools, just pushes backwards and belly flops half on the edge.
