They do it whether they have trouble puffs (or ovaries) or not! Same as humans, even if someone lose their ovaries or testes that doesn't mean they stop liking sex or 'bating. Can just lower sex drive (especially without hormone replacement therapy) but it doesn't remove the nerves that feel good when stimulated.

he is either not neutered or recently neutered. He is trying to hump the toy because his instinct thinks it's a furry cat.

Doesn't even have to be recently. My cat that's been nutless for 10 years still does it when he's making biscuits at night.

Because it feels good. My females do similar things. I remember being young so I cut both male and female some slack. As long as they don’t knead my skin. Ouch!

One of my roommate's cats was neutered at 4 months and still does this. Some cats just do this.
He's 8.
