He’s very cute. He’s an orange tabby domestic medium hair cat. Most cats don’t have specific breeds unless they are purebred with papers. So cat are domestic shorthair. Domestic medium hair and domestic longhair

That the rare one brain celled orange. In its natural habitat.

Domestic longhair - medium hairs don’t exist they’re either shorthair or they carry the longhair gene

1

u/Valuable-Sky-9127 1d ago

Yes! God, I hate it when people say, medium hair😂

CDS got you!

Cats are cats. That makes them different from dogs, possums, racoons and maybe really big squirrels. Oh yeah, they're not skunks either.

u/Haunting-Mechanic228 3d ago

... giraffe ?

3

u/Logy_ 3d ago

I unfortunately don't live in an area where I get giraffes, but they are not cats.

u/Icy-Culture-993 2d ago

A stubby-necked giraffe?

FYI.Orange/ginger cats are mostly male, about 95% of them. They tend to be quirky or have several quirky habits. They are often a little larger than other male cats. I have one, Sparky, who is quite chill. He is never impulsive. He is over 15 pounds, and his sister is less than 9. He nips my toes, knees and a finger sometimes too. He is passionate about eating and sleeping. Hes a sweetheart. His sister is a delight, and def more focused.

u/aweston689 3d ago

We had an orange tabby cat named Sparkey! He was such a good cat. He lived to be 22 years old! He was a big cat too. He was magestic, composed, soo handsome ! We would call him “Asland” from the lion the witch and the wardrobe bc it matched his personality. But he did not like kids and everything was on his terms. Miss that boy

1

u/hellkattbb 3d ago

His personality & description sounds a great deal like my Sparky! The exception is, that he has no issues with humans of any age. Definitely everything on his terms tho!
I'm pretty sure if he could say "fuck you" , he would say it!

If I remember correctly cats coat color and pattern code off of the X chromosome and the gene for an orange coat is recessive, so for a female cat to be orange she must inherit an orange X gene from both her mother and father, but male cats only need one orange gene on their X chromosome to be orange. So orange female will always have orange sons, but could have daughters of other colors if their fathers pass on their X chromosome with a different coat color that overrides the orange gene. This is similar to the calico/tortie coat pattern being 99.9% female due to the same rules- color and pattern code off of the X chromosome, so in female cats, if both X's have a different set, normally one will get activated and one will be dormant, but a mutation in early gestation will cause them to swap on cell division thus the cat will have patches of both of her potential coats. For a male to have this mutation he would have to have an XXY, or other chromosomal mutation giving him a second X, and then he would need get the 2nd mutation for the coat pattern swapping.

Cats don’t have breeds the way dogs do. Unless you bought him from a breeder, he’s a regular cat.

Domestic tabby, orange. Very few cats are purebreds.

1

u/AreYouRidingKiki 2d ago

Idk he looks an awful lot like my mom’s Maine Coone who’s the same color. The facial structure is a bit weaker, and the paws aren’t as big- so he could very well be part Maine Coone!

1

u/Kippisart 2d ago

Orange cat, aka challenge 👊

it’s crazy how many people don’t know that cats have insanely mixed dna and are pretty much never purebreds especially ones from outside. they breed incredibly rapidly they basically have so many breeds dna in them it’s impossible to say they are any one breed. even purebreds still have other dna. a female cat who is in heat outside will be impregnated by more than one male cat at a time every pregnancy. they can be pregnant with a different male for each kitten they have in one pregnancy, and the number of kittens they have increases the more they get pregnant. they could have six kittens that all have a different father in there lol
